Job Description

Director of Grid Services

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Director of Grid Services in the United States.

This strategic leadership role sits at the intersection of energy innovation, distributed energy systems, and modern electricity markets. It is responsible for building and scaling the capabilities required to monetize distributed energy assets through participation in wholesale power markets and utility grid services programs. The role acts as a key connector between engineering, product, and commercial teams to ensure energy systems are designed to be “grid-ready” from the ground up. It involves shaping how distributed energy resources are aggregated, optimized, and dispatched as part of virtual power plant strategies. The position operates in a highly cross-functional, fast-evolving environment where regulatory, technical, and commercial considerations must be balanced. It is ideal for a leader who can translate complex energy market dynamics into scalable business capabilities with real-world impact on grid reliability and decarbonization.

Accountabilities:
  • Define and execute the strategy for participation in energy markets and utility grid services programs, ensuring scalable monetization of distributed energy assets.
  • Lead the development of asset aggregation and dispatch capabilities, including virtual power plant frameworks across distributed energy resources such as storage, microgrids, and EV infrastructure.
  • Establish technical standards for “grid-ready” systems, including telemetry, metering, secure communications, and remote dispatch capabilities.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, data science, and software teams to ensure all energy products are designed for grid participation and market compliance.
  • Develop forecasting models, analytics, and simulations to evaluate energy market participation opportunities and asset performance.
  • Design commercial structures, revenue-sharing models, and participation frameworks for distributed energy market engagement.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and ensure compliance with ISO/RTO requirements, cybersecurity standards, and market participation rules.
  • Build partnerships with aggregators, technology providers, and scheduling entities to accelerate market entry and scale capabilities.

Requirements:

  • 7–10 years of experience in energy markets, utilities, distributed energy resources, or grid services environments.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO/RTO markets (such as PJM, CAISO, NYISO, MISO, ERCOT, SPP, ISO-NE) and energy market structures.
  • Proven experience developing or commercializing distributed energy solutions, energy services, or recurring revenue programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to build new capabilities or programs within complex, cross-functional organizations.
  • Strong technical and commercial fluency, with the ability to translate engineering concepts into business strategy.
  • Experience with regulatory frameworks, grid operations, and energy market participation models.
  • Strong collaboration, leadership, and communication skills with the ability to influence across technical and executive stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.

Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation aligned with senior leadership roles in the energy sector.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
  • Flexible work arrangements, including remote options depending on role requirements.
  • Performance-based culture with merit-driven compensation and recognition.
  • Strong career development and continuous learning opportunities in a high-growth environment.
  • Exposure to cutting-edge energy transition initiatives, including virtual power plants and grid modernization.
  • Inclusive benefits package supporting employees and their families.
