Work Conditions:

Please be informed that our Individuals are intellectually and developmentally disabled. At times they may become aggressive and /or violent. While the Agency does provide specialized training for handling individuals when they become aggressive and/or violent, the Agency cannot guarantee the safety of its employees who come in contact with individuals. This condition exists whether the employee is directly or indirectly assigned to individuals. Employees assume the risk of working with our individuals.

Function:

Reporting to the Director of Nursing Services, the RN Coordinator is responsible for oversight of nursing services including any outstanding nursing personnel issue.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Specific duties and responsibilities include the following, but not limited to:

  • Participates in all admission decisions, and visits prospective Individuals before admission;
  • Collaborates with other departments to develop support and coordinate Individual care;
  • Monitors clinical staff practices and implementation of clinical care;
  • Exercises overall supervision of Individual assessments and plans of care;
  • Ensures delivery of compassionate quality care and nursing supervision as evidenced by maintenance of optimal Individual functions;
  • Provides clinical supervision and direction as needed to the residential nurses, including disciplinary measures when applicable. RN Coordinator also ensures oversight of clinical training of newly hired residential nurses;
  • Approving and monitoring schedules and schedule changes, including approving vacation request for residential RNs. Ensures nursing coverage compliance as required by regulations for these leaves;
  • Assists in screening, hiring and training of new residential RNs;
  • Being available for scheduled weekend AOD calls;
  • Conducts cluster meetings as a forum for training, discussion and professional networking.

  • Collaborates with physicians, consultants, community agencies, and institutions to continuously improve the quality of nursing services and to resolve identified problems;
  • Performs on-site visit to observe care and delivery of general nursing services;
  • Monitors infection control program designed to provide safe, sanitary and comfortable environment thereby resulting in the prevention of transmission of infectious diseases;
  • Prepares infection control surveillance reports to identify trends and to develop effective actions to control and prevent infections. Submits an infection control report as required by law;
  • Performs QA activities for nursing services to monitor nursing compliance with standards and regulatory requirements through on-site visits, interviews and record reviews. Compiles a summary of findings with resolutions for the Director of Nursing Services;
  • The RN Coordinator shall be present during the survey and shall provide immediate corrections of nursing problems noted by surveyors, etc.
  • Participates in the preparation of the Plan of Correction response to an inspection survey and implements any follow up QA required for any nursing allegations;
  • In-service Trainer and Educator;
  • Interacts courteously with Individuals, family members, employees, visitors, vendors, business associates and representatives of government agencies;
  • Participates as a leader of the Infection Control Committee;
  • Acts in an administrative capacity in the absence of the Director of Nursing Services; and,
  • All other tasks as required by the Director of Nursing Services.
  • Qualifications:

  • B.A. or B.S. degree in Nursing preferred
  • Current state license as a Registered Nurse
  • 2-5 years previous experience as an RN required
  • Experience in an Individualized Care Facility (ICF) or Individualized Residential Alternative Facility (IRA) for the Developmentally Disabled preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations that apply to the practice of nursing in a group home setting.
  • Has strong organizational and time management skills.
