Account Executive, Medicare at Smith Brothers Insurance, LLC – Ithaca, New York
About This Position
The Account Executive, Medicare, is responsible for the sales and ongoing service of Medicare business in accordance with CMS and carrier guidelines. This role manages a book of business that includes an assigned portfolio upon hire and grows the book through new sales, referrals, and retention efforts. The Account Executive serves as a trusted advisor to clients, guiding plan options, enrollment, renewals, and ongoing support while ensuring compliance, accuracy, and an excellent client experience
Responsibilities & What You’ll Be Doing
- Manage a book of clients, including an assigned portfolio and new self-produced business.
- Successfully meet established annual sales and retention goals.
- Drive sales growth through outreach, referrals, rounding, cross-sell efforts, and lead follow-up.
- Manage full client lifecycle, including quoting, cost analysis, proposals, enrollment, changes, renewals, and service.
- Educate clients on plan options, networks, prescriptions, subsidies, and key enrollment deadlines.
- Support service needs, i.e., billing, ID cards, escalations, coverage verification, and basic claims help.
- Provide health provider network and pharmacy formulary support for book of business.
- Conduct Medicare sales presentations and educational presentations for internal and external groups.
- Maintain accurate, compliant documentation and activity within CRM/agency systems.
- Partner with carriers and internal teams to resolve issues and ensure timely follow-through.
- Track and manage pipeline activity, including quoting, conversions, retention, and revenue goals.
- Deliver a strong client experience through responsive communication and proactive renewals.
- Stay current on product changes, carrier requirements, compliance updates, and market trends.
- Follow department and agency defined processes, procedures, and workflows.
- Utilize the agency management system for daily activities, documentation, and assigned tasks.
- Participate in internal training sessions as well as carrier system training.
- Review, update, and help develop processes and workflows as needed.
- Ensure compliance with agency processes, confidentiality standards, and quality metrics.
- Work on projects and other work as assigned.
- Engage in ongoing professional development through internal learning and training.
- Effectively use MS Office, standard office applications, and other technologies.
- Skillfully use AI tools (Copilot, ChatGPT, etc.) to aid work and efficiency.
- Work effectively with all team members, provide backup support, and contribute to team collaboration.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities, You’ll Bring
- 2+ years of Medicare insurance experience in sales position desired.
- Life & Health license in good standing and willing to become licensed per state requirements.
- CMS registered agent in good standing and willingness to maintain.
- AHIP and carrier certification in good standing.
- College Degree preferred. High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Professional designation is a plus.
- Must obtain/maintain annual Medicare certifications.
- Experienced in Medicare sales and service with proven record of building and servicing book of business.
- Deep knowledge and experience in navigating constantly changing CMS rules and procedures.
- Ability to handle high pace during Annual Enrollment Period(s).
- Ability to create opportunities and close business outside of AEP windows.
- Strong consultative selling skills with the ability to simplify and recommend appropriate coverage options.
- Excellent service skills, delivering support with empathy, professionalism, and a client-first approach.
- Ability to manage high-volume workflows while balancing sales and service priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in applications, documentation, and compliance requirements.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build trust quickly and explain coverage confidently.
- Organized and self-directed, able to prioritize, meet deadlines, and maintain consistent pipeline activity.
- Team-oriented, collaborative, accountable, and willing to share knowledge and best practices.
