Description
Thompson Software Solutions is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to lead the development, architecture definition, integration, and verification of avionics systems for a military aircraft platform. This role is responsible for developing system and subsystem requirements using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles, authoring system design documentation that drives software implementation, and leading system-level verification activities including Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing.
The ideal candidate has strong experience developing avionics system requirements, applying MBSE methodologies, managing requirements, and working hands-on in lab environments to validate and troubleshoot integrated systems. This position requires a systems engineer to use a wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the systems engineering field to design, develop, integrate, and test software and systems. The successful candidate will be a member of a high-performing multi-site team and must be self-motivated with a strong work ethic, time-management, and interpersonal skills. In this role, you will work independently at times on projects, at other times will be in a collaborative team environment with other systems and software engineers, as well as other program development and deployment teams.
Basic Requirements:
· Bachelor's degree in Systems engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical field
· 8+ years of systems engineering experience in avionics or safety-critical embedded systems
· Experience applying Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles
· Experience developing system architecture models using SysML (e.g., Cameo, Rhapsody, or similar tools)
· Demonstrated experience developing and managing requirements including traceability and verification
· Experience authoring system/subsystem design documentation that drives software implementation
· Experience developing and executing system-level and HIL test procedures
· Strong understanding of requirements verification and validation processes
· Experience troubleshooting integrated HW/SW systems in a lab environment
· Strong technical writing and documentation skills
· Ability to work onsite 100%
· Ability to travel 10%
Preferred / Additional Skills
· Experience using Agile methodologies
· Experience designing and architecting avionics systems
· Experience as a lead engineer
· Proficient with Atlassian Tools (Confluence, JIRA, Bitbucket, etc.)
· Experience in DO-178C / DO-254 or other safety-critical development environments
· Experience supporting certification efforts
· Experience with MIL-ACAS, CAPS/SKE systems
· Solid understanding of configuration management principles
