About This Position

Job Summary:

We are seeking a mission-driven Physician Assistant (PA) specializing in Gastroenterology to join our multidisciplinary team at Family Health Center. In this role, you will play a critical part in expanding access to specialized digestive healthcare for a diverse and underserved patient population. Our GI department will focus on the intersection of preventative care and chronic disease management. You will work alongside primary care providers to manage everything from routine colorectal cancer screenings to complex hepatology and inflammatory bowel disease. This is an ideal role for a clinician who is passionate about health equity, community medicine, and providing high-quality specialty care outside a traditional corporate hospital setting.

Essential Functions:

  • Obtains and records patient history
  • Perform comprehensive evaluations of patients referred for gastrointestinal, hepatic,

and pancreatic-biliary symptoms.

  • Provide timely "curbside" or formal consultations to internal Family Medicine and Internal Medicine providers to streamline patient care.
  • Consults with physician as established in the collaborative practice agreement. Develops and implements a collaborative practice agreement in the specific clinical area and performs a periodic review of the collaborative agreement.
  • Completes diagnostic and therapeutic studies
  • Completes charting in a thorough and timely manner
  • Performs physical and medical screening examinations
  • Works within legal, regulatory, and ethical practice standards
  • Adequately manages patient flow in the Emergency Department
  • Completes required courses, i.e., HIPAA, EMTALA and other CME /CEU requirements
  • Orders diagnostic laboratory tests, radiological studies, or other therapies as appropriate
  • Actively participates in staff meetings and risk management education
  • Participates as a Member of the CWHMC CODE committee
  • Establishes diagnostic decision-making and initiates a treatment plan, which may include ordering medications, and additional therapeutic modalities, etc.
  • Performs procedures as allowed by state law and under the direction of the supervising or collaborating physician
  • Coordinates patient care with other members of the health care team. Initiates consultation requests to other health professionals to provide comprehensive patient management.
  • Performs a patient record review with the collaborating physician in a timely fashion but not less than every three months
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • Physician Assistant Certification
  • Registration & Licensure by the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners/ Physician Assistant Advisory required

OR

  • Prior to work experience as a professional nurse.
  • 2 years of experience in Gastroenterology, or Internal Medicine.
  • Active DEA
  • Updated report showing no sanctions by the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs — we should be going back 10 years —
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ACLS) Certifications by American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Active membership in a professional organization preferred
  • Ability and willingness to accommodate scheduled needs, including working extended hours, weekdays, overnights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Excellent time management skills
  • EMR Knowledge
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Medical and broad-based clinical emergency medicine knowledge
  • Ability to work with all emergency department and hospital employees effectively and successfully

Standard shift:

Day shift

Work Location: One location — transportation/ valid license required – Will also be going to satellite locations

Functional/Technical Skills Requirements:

  • Comprehensive understanding of operational health care delivery systems and the current health care landscape. Skills and experience with the operational aspects of health care technology deployment. Familiarity and comfort with technology-based operational improvement.
  • Communications: Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Ability to take abstract, complex and/or technical information and break it down for a variety of audiences in a way that is meaningful for them
