Position Description

Job Summary:

The Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy equipment to support road, site, and highway construction projects. This role contributes directly to project quality, productivity, and safety by ensuring equipment is used effectively, maintained properly, and aligned with project specifications and timelines.

Essential Functions:

  1. Focused. Operate a variety of heavy equipment (e.g., pavers, shuttle buggies, rollers, graders, rubber tire excavators) to deliver high-quality work execution that meets project specifications, productivity targets, and quality standards.
  2. Committed to serve. Assist with general labor tasks, site preparation, and other duties to support project progress and overall team productivity while helping keep work on schedule.
  3. Protect family and friends. Consistently follow all safety protocols, wear required PPE, and proactively identify and report hazards, incidents, or equipment concerns to ensure a safe work environment and support a zero-incident culture.
  4. Safety always wins. Adhere to job site plans, training, and standard operating procedures to execute work in alignment with established procedures and maintain consistency and compliance.
  5. Results matter. Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and cleaning to maintain equipment reliability and performance, and promptly report repair needs to minimize downtime.
  6. Respect and engage. Communicate proactively with team members and supervisors, both in person and via radio, to enable clear and effective communication and coordination of work.
  7. Our word is our bond. Maintain consistent attendance, arrive prepared for scheduled shifts, and follow through on responsibilities to demonstrate reliability and accountability in meeting project demands.

Position Requirements

Requirements, Education and Experience:

  1. Demonstrated ability to safely operate multiple types of heavy equipment; minimum of 2 years of heavy equipment operation experience preferred
  2. Ability to work flexible hours, including days, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed
  3. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred, or willingness to obtain
  4. Knowledge of construction safety practices and regulations
  5. Basic mechanical knowledge to identify equipment issues and support routine maintenance
  6. High School Diploma or GED preferred
  7. Proficient in verbal and written English
  8. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
  9. Legal authorization to work in the United States

Travel:

This role requires extensive travel—up to 100% to project sites across New Hampshire, based on operational needs.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

This position works both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions. It involves heavy physical work, including moving objects weighing up to 100 pounds or more. The role requires working on or near moving mechanical parts and loud equipment. Employees must be able to sit or stand for extended periods and perform physical activities such as lifting, bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing, walking, reaching, driving, and repetitive motions.

Work is performed on active construction sites near moving mechanical parts and loud equipment. The role requires good hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and the ability to maintain awareness and balance on uneven terrain.

Employees must be able to communicate effectively in noisy environments and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
