SUMMER STUDENT JOB OPPORTUNITY Junior Fire Fighter - Emergency Services - 8 weeks Salary Range: $18.15 per hour |
JOB SUMMARY:
The Summer Student - Junior Firefighter assists the Fire Department with operational readiness, fire prevention activities, equipment maintenance, and community education initiatives. This position provides students with exposure to the tire service while supporting the department in maintaining facilities, vehicles, and equipment. The role may include participation in training exercises and non-emergency support tasks under supervision.
POSITION DUTIES:
- Assist firefighters with daily station duties and maintenance.
- Perform cleaning, inspection, and minor maintenance of firefighting equipment, vehicles, and tools.
- Assist with fire prevention and public education programs.
- Support training activities and drills as directed by department officers.
- Maintain fire station faculties, grounds, and apparatus bays.
- Assist with inventory management of equipment and supplies.
- Participate in community events and outreach activities.
- Support administrative tasks such as filing, documentation, and records management.
- Observe emergency response operations when appropriate and pennitted.
- Follow all department safety policies, procedures, and standards.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Preference will be given to members or residents of Sagamok Anishnawbek
- Valid driver’s license is an asset
- Must comply with all municipal policies and fire department standard operating guidelines.
- May be required to complete safety training and workplace orientation prior to starting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be enrolled in secondary school, college, or university, preferably in Fire Protection, Emergency Services, or a related field.
- Minimum age requirement (commonly 16 or 18 years, depending on department policy).
- Interest in pursuing a career in fire services or emergency response.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Physically capable of perfonning light to moderate manual labour.
- Valid driver's licence may be considered an asset.
- First Aid/CPR certification is an asset.
- Work perfonned at the fire station, training grounds, and within the community.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions and physical tasks.
- May include evening or weekend community events.
- All work performed under the supervision of trained firefighters and officers
- Orientation to fire department operations and safety procedures.
- Basic familiarization with firefighting equipment and apparatus.
- Participation in department training sessions where appropriate.
