Inventory Controller at SYOS AEROSPACE – Mount Maunganui, Bay of Plenty

Role Purpose

To establish and manage an efficient stores operation, ensuring accurate inventory control, timely kitting for manufacturing, and smooth material flow. This role requires experience in setting up stores from scratch, strong knowledge of MRP/ERP systems, excellent Excel skills for inventory tracking and reporting, and familiarity with Kanban principles to support lean manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

Stores Setup & Management

• Design and implement a structured stores layout, including bin locations, labeling, and workflow.
• Improve and follow standard operating procedures for goods receipt, storage, and kitting.
• Introduce Kanban systems for material replenishment and visual control.
  
  

Inventory Control

• Maintain accurate stock records in Excel, ERP or MRP systems.
• Perform cycle counts and full stocktakes; investigate discrepancies.
• Monitor stock levels, reorder points, and lead times to prevent shortages or overstocking.
  
  
• Goods Receipt
• Receive deliveries, verify quantities and documentation, and book into inventory system (Excel, ERP,MRP).
• Ensure timely put-away and correct bin allocation.
• Handle non-conforming goods and liaise with purchasing for resolution.

• Kitting & Production Support
• Prepare kits for orders accurately and on time.
• Coordinate with planning, Engineering and production to manage shortages and priorities.
• Support Kanban-driven material flow to production lines.
  
  

Data & Reporting

• Use advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas, conditional formatting) to create and maintain inventory tracking sheets and performance dashboards.
• Generate reports on stock accuracy, ageing, and usage trends.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives using data analysis.

Purchasing & Logistics Support

• Provide additional capacity to support procurement during busy periods
• Collect urgent orders from suppliers
  
  

Skills & Experience

• Proven experience in setting up and organizing stores operations.
• Strong knowledge of MRP/ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Sage, Dynamics).
• Excellent Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
• Familiarity with Kanban principles and lean manufacturing practices.
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with purchasing, planning, and production teams.
  
  

Desirable

• Experience in manufacturing or engineering environments.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 processes for traceability.
• Forklift license or willingness to train.
