Summary/Objective:
The Modular Engineering Manager leads the engineering function for the Modular Division, ensuring all modular projects are designed for manufacturing (DfMA), compliant with state modular programs, and fully coordinated for production. This role oversees the creation of client approval packages, state approval sets, production plans, and all engineering deliverables required to support efficient, repeatable, and scalable modular manufacturing.
Essential Functions:
- Lead the modular engineering team in developing designs optimized for manufacturing, assembly, and flow.
- Establish engineering standards, templates, and repeatable design processes.
- Ensure all designs support efficient production, minimize rework, and align with shop capabilities.
- Coordinate with Manufacturing Engineering to integrate DfMA principles into production planning.
- Oversee preparation and submission of state modular approval packages.
- Ensure engineering documentation meets state modular program requirements.
- Coordinate with third‑party inspectors and state agencies during plan review and approval.
- Support UL requirements by ensuring engineering documentation aligns with certification standards.
- Oversee creation of client approval packages, state approval sets, production/jig plans, shop drawings and fabrication details.
- Ensure all engineering deliverables are accurate, complete, and released on schedule.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to integrate quality
- Work closely with Production, QC, and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure engineering intent is executed correctly.
- Support QC with technical interpretation of drawings, specifications, and compliance requirements.
- Provide engineering support during production to resolve issues quickly and prevent delays.
- Manage a remote engineering team with monthly onsite visits.
- Mentor and develop engineers and designers to strengthen modular expertise.
- Assign workloads, manage schedules, and ensure timely delivery of engineering packages.
- Build a culture of accountability, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Standardize engineering workflows, naming conventions, templates, and revision control.
- Implement systems for document control and engineering change management.
- Identify opportunities to reduce engineering cycle time and improve throughput.
- Participate in design reviews with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Provide technical support to estimating and preconstruction.
- Ensure engineering aligns with project budgets, schedules, and scope.

Required:
- Experience in modular design, modular manufacturing, or industrialized construction.
- Strong understanding of DfMA principles and production‑driven engineering.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and modular codes.
- Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
- Ability to manage remote teams and coordinate across multiple departments.
- Must adhere to all company policies and procedures.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Architecture, Structural, Mechanical, or related).
- Experience with state modular programs and UL.
- Experience developing engineering standards, templates, and workflows.
- Lean/CI experience preferred.
- Prior military experience is a plus.
The work environment and physical demands required would be representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, and may include, but are not limited to the following:
Work Environment:
- Works in a professional office and shop environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.
- Position will require occasional visits to construction sites.
- May be exposed to varying temperatures; both inside and outside, including inclement weather, heat, humidity, cold, and dampness when visiting projects.
- May be exposed to moderate/high noise levels when in work areas when visiting projects.
- May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including dust in work areas.
Physical Demands:
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- Be able to sit for long periods of time while working on a computer.
- This role may be standing/walking for long periods and may on occasion use small hand tools.
- Frequently it is required to use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, use tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms
Travel:
- Monthly travel to the modular facility; occasional additional travel as required
