Description: SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Fleet Maintenance Superintendent position is a Closed Promotional opportunity, available to any regular full-time City employee who has successfully completed the original probationary period or to any at-will full-time City employee who has completed twelve months of consecutive employment. Under general direction, this position oversees the City’s Fleet Division and leads the day-to-day operations, programs, and activities supporting the City’s Enterprise Fleet program. This role includes operational oversight of fleet maintenance and repair, vehicle and equipment replacement planning, fleet administration, safety and compliance programs, fuel management systems, and emergency response support.
As the City continues investing in service delivery and infrastructure, this position represents an opportunity to support an expanded portfolio of fleet responsibilities while helping position the City’s fleet program for the future.
Your Day-to-Day- Fleet Operations Leadership: Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily fleet maintenance operations, preventive maintenance programs, equipment readiness, and service delivery for City departments.
- Program Administration: Support oversight of the City’s enterprise fleet program, including fleet replacement planning, asset management systems, fuel operations, reporting, and program performance monitoring.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, coach, and develop assigned staff; support training, performance management, and a strong culture of accountability and safety.
- Strategic Planning & Budgeting: Participate in fleet planning, equipment procurement, budget development, and long-range strategies that support operational needs.
- Regulatory Compliance & Safety: Oversee compliance with applicable regulations, environmental and safety requirements, and support continuous improvement in fleet practices.
- Project & Customer Support: Partner with departments citywide to support equipment needs, service priorities, and solutions that enhance reliability and customer service.
- Emergency Response: Participate in after-hours response and support emergency operations as needed.

Use good judgment in the scope of assigned authority; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective relations with City employees, the public and other agencies; plan, coordinate, schedule and estimate repair and maintenance work; supervise, direct, and coordinate the work of Fleet staff; operate office, shop and field equipment; perform skilled automotive and heavy/light equipment repair; maintain accurate and concise records; train and evaluate staff; interpret and apply federal, state and local policies, laws and regulations; perform complex, difficult and emergency repairs to vehicles and equipment; and demonstrate an awareness and appreciation of the cultural diversity of the community.
Five years of responsible experience in vehicle, equipment and diesel repair and maintenance, including two years of lead supervisory experience. Experience with computer programs used for repair diagnostics, preventive maintenance and fleet management is required.

Benefits:
Vacation Leave – A new employee will accrue eighty (80) hours of vacation per calendar year for the first two years of service, one hundred, twenty (120) hours for years three through five, one hundred, sixty (160) hours for years six through ten and two hundred (200) hours after eleven years. Vacation accrual begins immediately; however, a new employee is not eligible to take vacation leave until the completion of six (6) months of service with the City.
Sick Leave – A new employee will earn ninety-six (96) hours of sick leave each year.
Bereavement Leave - Employees are eligible to use up to 40 hours of bereavement leave per fiscal year.
Group Health Insurance Program – A new employee will become a member of one of the City's group health plans (Aetna HMO, Aetna AVN HMO, Aetna PPO, or Kaiser HMO) effective the first day of the month following their date of hire. Per current MOU the City will pay 90% of the health care premium and employees will pick up 10% of the premiums of the plan they select.
Voluntary Dental/Vision Insurance Programs – The City offers two voluntary dental insurance programs, an HMO program and a PPO Program, as well as a voluntary vision insurance program.
Retiree Health Savings (RHS) – All employees participate in a Retiree Health Savings plan through the ICMA Retirement Corporation.
