Senior Regulatory Counsel

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Regulatory Counsel in United States.

This senior legal role is focused on shaping and guiding regulatory strategy across the Americas within a fast-growing global financial services environment. You will act as a key advisor on complex regulatory matters impacting payments, fintech, and financial services, ensuring compliance while enabling business expansion and innovation. The role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams including product, compliance, risk, and commercial functions to support new market entry and product development. You will also engage with regulators and external counsel, helping to navigate evolving regulatory frameworks across multiple jurisdictions. Operating in a high-growth, international environment, you will contribute directly to licensing strategies, regulatory filings, and ongoing compliance programs. This is a high-impact position where legal expertise directly enables scalable business growth and market expansion.

Accountabilities:
  • Provide strategic legal and regulatory guidance on financial services and payments regulations across the Americas, including licensing, money transmission, FX, and related frameworks.
  • Support and oversee regulatory licensing, registrations, and ongoing compliance obligations in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Monitor and assess regulatory developments, proactively identifying changes impacting business operations and strategic initiatives.
  • Partner with Product Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Financial Crime teams to ensure adherence to applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Advise on market expansion initiatives and new product launches, including regulatory mapping and licensing strategies.
  • Engage with regulators and external legal counsel to support filings, submissions, and regulatory discussions.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of regional regulatory strategy aligned with global business objectives.
  • Support preparation and submission of required regulatory reports and ensure accuracy of compliance documentation.
  • Leverage modern tools, including AI, to improve efficiency and scalability of legal and regulatory operations.

Requirements:

  • Qualified lawyer with at least 8 years of post-qualification experience.
  • Strong background in financial services, fintech, or payments regulatory law, ideally covering Americas markets.
  • Deep expertise in regulatory frameworks such as money transmission, e-money, FX, remittances, and card issuing.
  • Proven experience handling regulatory filings, licensing processes, and direct engagement with financial regulators.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. and broader Americas financial services regulatory environments.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with legal, compliance, risk, and business teams in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex regulatory issues into clear business guidance.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively in high-growth, ambiguous environments.
  • Preferred: mix of in-house and private practice experience, and exposure to RegTech or LegalTech tools.
  • Preferred: experience supporting market expansion and regulatory licensing in fintech or payments sectors.
