Utility Technician at Zausner Foods Corporation – New Holland, Pennsylvania
About This Position
Job Title: Utility Technician, 1st shift
Hours Required: Monday – Friday, 5:30 am to 2:00pm
Position Description: This position repairs and modifies electrical and mechanical systems for the following equipment in a food manufacturing plant: production, Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), and refrigeration. This position also maintains and repairs facility utility equipment, electrical distribution, and building wiring throughout the plant.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
- Performs preventative maintenance as needed to facility utility equipment and machinery
- Maintains the following: air compressors, freezers, glycol, hot water, refrigeration HVAC controls, sprinkler, fire pump, lights, ammonia compressors and security monitoring equipment.
- Repairs dock locks, overhead doors, shrink wrappers, plumbing & mechanical issues
- Inspects electrical work for completeness, safety, and functionality. Maintains familiarity and compliance with the National Electrical Code rules for inspections
- Coordinates works and supervises outside contractors of various trades as needed
- Design and implement safety and reliability into utility controls
- May function as back up wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) operator, familiar with WWTP operations, procedures, and equipment
- Supports production needs by filling in for Maintenance Technician when necessary
- Participates in Continuous Improvement Process
- Follows all Quality policies & procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s)
- Follows all Safety policies & procedures and participates in monthly observations
- Maintains regular, predictable attendance
- Other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no direct reports, but at times will oversee outside contractors performing work in the facility.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in a manufacturing environment with the following conditions:
• Exposure to hot or cold climate frequently
• Exposure to chemical frequently
• Exposure to noise and vibration continuously
• Exposure to wet and humid conditions continuously

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours vary depending on the shift and department. Overtime, weekend and holiday work is required at times. Vacation coverage as needed.

Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to speak, read, write and comprehend English
- Requires the ability to use basic shop mathematics; handbook formulas; to interpret simple blueprints or drawings, use a wide variety of tools or precision measuring instruments; may setup, re-tool, operate a somewhat complex machine
- Electrical and pneumatic trouble shooting and repairs
- Excellent mechanical aptitude
- Basic computer operations
- Industrial safety, lock out-tag out safety procedure.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in an industrial maintenance environment or Dairy industry
- Associates Degree in related field (Electronic Engineering Technology)
- Journeyman certificate
