About This Position

Description:

Do you love bringing order to fast-moving projects? Are you an organized, process-minded communicator? Do you thrive on keeping teams aligned and projects moving forward?

We’re looking for a Permitting Specialist to support our growing fiber build efforts by coordinating with municipalities and ensuring we have the permits, approvals, and documentation needed to move forward. This role is a vital link between engineering, construction, and city governments—and plays a key part in keeping our projects on time and in compliance.

Every city is different, and this role is ideal for someone who can adapt quickly, work through red tape, and isn’t afraid of face-to-face meetings or jumping into process improvements. If you have a background in permitting, admin, or project coordination and are ready to grow—we want to hear from you.

A Day in the Life

You’ll spend your day filing paperwork, tracking permits, and following up with cities to keep projects moving. One hour you might be double-checking a document, and the next you’re in a city meeting answering questions or navigating a unique approval process. Whether it’s working side-by-side with our engineering team or submitting a last-minute request, your job is to make sure the permitting engine doesn’t stall.

What You’ll Do

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate and submit permitting paperwork to cities, counties, and governing agencies for fiber builds
  • Serve as a liaison between internal teams (engineering and construction) and external partners (cities, permitting offices, etc.)
  • Track permit approvals, payments, expirations, and deadlines in internal systems and shared databases
  • Attend city meetings as needed to support permitting conversations and help resolve open items
  • Support documentation, data entry, and filing across multiple projects simultaneously
  • Collaborate with the construction project managers to ensure permits are issued before work begins
  • Assist with process improvements—every city is different, and we need someone who can help evolve how we work
  • Take direction from leadership and collaborate with peers in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment

What Will Help You Stand Out

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with city, county, or state government entities
  • Familiarity with construction permitting processes in utilities, transportation, or infrastructure
  • Previous work with agencies like KDOT, Corps of Engineers, rail systems, or parks departments
  • Confident engaging in discussions and negotiations with municipal agencies
  • Ability to suggest improvements and adapt to different permitting processes
