About This Position
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Material Handler – Assembler to support operations in our Madison location. In this role, you’ll move, load, unload, kit, and organize materials that keep production flowing efficiently. You will also support inventory accuracy, equipment loading, and general shop organization. The product that is completed at our Madison location is very large and experience moving large metal components is preferred. This is a full-time position working four 10 hour days, Monday through Thursday with overtime available on Fridays.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform daily safety inspections on department forklifts and complete required documentation.
• Read work orders and follow verbal instructions to determine material movement needs.
• Kit materials for jobs moving through production.
• Perform weekly cycle counts and collaborate with the cost accountant on inventory adjustments.
• Continuously supply materials to assembly, welding and paint teams.
• Maintain accurate inventory locations within the ERP system.
• Count, weigh, measure, and verify identifying information on incoming and outgoing products.
• Load and unload materials using forklifts, Big Red, Shuttlelift, or by hand.
• Tag, label, or mark materials and containers as required.
• Pack ship-loose items and complete SL paperwork and checklists.
• Assist in loading plenums for shipment.
• Locate and distribute required components.
• Check, restock, and request production supplies (caulk, rags, hose, etc.).
• Ensure tool boards are complete; replace missing or broken tools.
• Support 6S efforts, shop cleanliness, and operate floor scrubber/sweeper.
• Assist assembly teams when needed.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1–3 months of related experience or training preferred.
• Experience safely operating forklift equipment; ability to obtain and maintain a forklift license.
• Ability to read and understand work instructions, memos, and operating procedures.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Comfortable communicating one-on-one with team members.
• Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
