About This Position

Description:

The Swim School Lead is responsible for the smooth running of Swim School operations during swim lessons. This position reports directly to the Manager of Youth Programming. The Swim School Lead will be available on the pool deck to provide customer service to families and support instructors.

The Swim School Lead must be able to work independently, often with limited to no supervision or direction; adhere to safety procedures, practices, and policies of Team Sheeper; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the patrons; communicate effectively verbally and in writing. The Swim School Lead is responsible for the overall safety of lessons, as well as some administrative and leadership duties.

This is a full-time position for the Summer. We are looking to hire multiple candidates to fill the following positions:

Swim School Lead (Camp Lessons)

Monday-Friday 8:00 am-3:00 pm

Swim School Lead (Regular Swim Lessons)

*Saturdays 8:45 am-2:00 pm

Sundays 8:30 am-12:15 pm

Monday-Thursday 2:00-7:15 pm

*Saturdays are optional

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Front Desk staff, Lifeguards, and the rest of Menlo/P.A. Swim and Sport to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Supports parents and all patrons with professional communications.
  • Maintain safe and adequate equipment and gear for swim lessons.
  • Print daily rosters for swim lessons, run shift briefs and debriefs, supervise lessons, and assist instructors with any shift-specific needs. Communicate concerns or questions to the Manager of Youth Programming.
  • Supervise student evaluations and promotions.
  • Create Camp lesson rosters, oversee progress updates, and camp certificates.
  • Assists with call-outs and finding site-specific shift coverage, documenting and communicating such instances to the Manager of Youth Programming for attendance tracking.
  • Communicates any shift change requests or lesson requests directly to the Manager of Youth Programming.
  • May perform swim instruction as needed, including last-minute coverage or subbing when a sub isn’t found.
  • Expected to have a swimsuit on hand and prepared to cover last-minute changes.
  • Run staff meetings, trainings, and attend in-services for both Swim School and Lifeguards when required.
  • Represents the business well and works with staff to follow company and department policies; for example, dress code, general staff behavior, and time management.
  • Ensures the safety of swim school students at all times and may perform rescues or first aid as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Although this role will have no direct supervisor responsibilities, it will indirectly supervise several non-exempt employees, including swim instructors and coaches. You will be expected to ensure all employees within Swim School are following company and departmental policies and expectations.

Requirements:
  • Lifeguard certification is preferred.
  • Attend in-services for both Swim School and Lifeguard training (when required).
  • Ability to exemplify great leadership skills: time management, punctuality, responsibility, and a willingness to help.
  • Solid communicator with demonstrated experience in working with a wide variety of audiences, including the public, staff, management, children, and adults.
  • Swim Instruction Experience: 1+ years of proven ability in a swim school or aquatics program environment.
  • Understands all emergency procedures for Swim School and Team Sheeper.
  • Swim instructing students as young as 6 months old through Adulthood, physical or learning disabilities, and special needs.
  • Some aquatic management is preferred.
