About This Position
GAP is the longest established gastroenterology practice in the Piedmont Triad area. This independent, physician-owned GI practice is looking for a PRN or Part-Time Histotech for our Pathology Lab. The GAP Pathology Lab makes slides from the tissue samples retrieved from colonoscopies so that the Pathologist can review the sample for our patients.

About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Histotechnologist to join our pathology team. This role is essential to patient care, ensuring that all histology specimens are accurately processed, prepared, and delivered for timely diagnosis. The ideal candidate will work independently, exercise sound judgment, and contribute to a high-quality, efficient laboratory environment.
What You’ll Do
- Receive, accession, and process all histology specimens using appropriate methodologies
- Prepare tissue samples for microscopic examination, including embedding, cutting, and slide preparation
- Perform routine, special, and immunohistochemical staining procedures (including in situ hybridization)
- Accurately label, track, and document specimens throughout the testing process
- Enter and manage data within the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
- Examine stained slides and controls to ensure quality and accuracy; adjust procedures as needed
- Maintain laboratory equipment through routine cleaning, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Manage inventory, order supplies, and maintain organized workstations
- Ensure compliance with all laboratory policies, safety standards, and CAP guidelines
- Properly store and archive specimens, slides, and blocks
- Communicate effectively with pathologists, residents, and laboratory leadership
- Respond to laboratory inquiries and provide excellent internal customer service
- Strong knowledge of histology techniques, staining procedures, and laboratory protocols
- Ability to work independently and exercise critical thinking in problem-solving
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

- This is a non-supervisory role
- Must be able to handle sensitive situations and escalate concerns appropriately

Minimum Job Requirements
- High school diploma; previous experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

- Knowledge of specified laboratory solutions, materials and/or media.
- Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
- Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
- Knowledge of cleaning procedures and specifications of specified laboratory equipment and/or facilities.

Position requires: a) safe and proper handling of laboratory materials and specimens: b) following detailed procedures and instructions in the preparation and breakdown of laboratory equipment, facilities, and solutions; c) using prescribed sterile procedures in the cleaning of lab equipment, facilities, and supplies, d) HIPAA compliancy required, e) Follows OSHA and CLIA standards as required by law
Working Conditions and Physical Effort· Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.· Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.· Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
