About This Position
The Scheduler at QuikCut West in Columbia City, Indiana is responsible for planning, coordinating, and maintaining efficient production schedules across all fabrication and finishing processes. This role ensures that jobs flow smoothly through laser cutting, brake press operations, folding machines, welding, and powder coating, while meeting customer delivery commitments, maximizing equipment utilization, and balancing capacity across departments. The Scheduler works closely with production leaders, sales, engineering, and shop floor personnel to prioritize work, resolve scheduling conflicts, and continuously improve on-time delivery performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and adjust daily and weekly production schedules for all fabrication and finishing operations, including laser cutting, brake press operations, folding machines, welding, powder coating, and more.
- Coordinate work orders and routing to ensure efficient flow through all departments.
- Balance workload across machines and labor to optimize throughput and minimize bottlenecks.
- Schedule jobs based on customer due dates, material availability, machine capacity, and labor resources.
- Monitor schedule adherence and proactively address delays, capacity constraints, or material shortages.
- Collaborate with sales, customer service, and purchasing teams on delivery commitments and lead time adjustments.
- Maintain accurate scheduling data in ERP/MRP or scheduling systems.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher in manufacturing, operations, or a related field preferred.
- 2+ years of scheduling, production planning, or operations coordination experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- Working knowledge of metal fabrication processes, including lasers, brake presses, welding, and finishing operations.
- Strong understanding of production flow, capacity planning, and job prioritization.
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Familiarity with powder coating and post-fabrication finishing workflows preferred.
- Experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies preferred.
- Prior experience working directly with shop floor supervisors and machine operators preferred.
