About This Position
JOB SUMMARY
The Foam Panel Technician is responsible for the hands-on operation, technical troubleshooting, and first-line maintenance of foam production equipment. This role blends process expertise with mechanical capability. The Foam Panel Technician is expected to run production to spec, identify and resolve equipment issues, perform preventive and corrective maintenance tasks, and coordinate with the Maintenance team on more complex repairs. The position is critical to maintaining consistent output quality, minimizing downtime, and keeping the Foamline running safely and efficiently.
JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES
Production Operations
- Operate foam production equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Set up and calibrate equipment for each production run, including mixing ratios and material inputs.
- Monitor and adjust equipment parameters (air flow, vacuum, troughs, fall plates, line speeds) to maintain consistent production quality.
- Start and stop machinery as required, including executing emergency shutdowns when necessary.
- Measure, weigh, and mix raw materials (chemicals, activators, and additives) accurately based on production requirements.
- Inspect foam products for consistency, density, and adherence to spec; document and report quality issues and implement corrective measures promptly.
- Assist in the storage and handling of materials, including foam blocks and activator drums.
- Maintain inventory of raw materials and report shortages or discrepancies promptly.
- Provide backup support for colleagues during production shifts.
Technical Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks on foamline equipment, including cleaning, lubrication, and component inspections per maintenance schedule.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems using standard diagnostic tools; diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions (motors, pumps, valves, etc.) with minimal supervision.
- Disassemble and reassemble equipment components to perform repairs or maintenance; replace or repair defective parts.
- Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for all maintenance and repair activities.
- Coordinate with the Maintenance team for complex repairs, equipment upgrades, or machine installations and relocations.
- Respond to equipment work orders in a timely and efficient manner.
- Ensure all equipment operates within safety and quality parameters before returning to production.
Documentation & Communication
- Complete production logs, checklists, and quality reports accurately each shift.
- Document troubleshooting activities, repairs performed, and recommendations for future reference.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance work, inspections, and parts used.
- Communicate production updates, equipment issues, and recommendations effectively to supervisors and team members.
- Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure smooth production flow.
Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE (gloves, glasses, respirators, etc.) at all times.
- Follow LOTO procedures and comply with all environmental and safety regulations.
- Participate in safety training and maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with 5S standards.
- Maintain a record of zero safety incidents or near misses each month.
- Other duties as assigned.
This position is Monday-Friday, 5AM - 3PM
Requirements:KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
- Meet daily foam panel production targets.
- Complete production logs and reports accurately each shift.
- Minimize machine downtime.
- Keep defect rates below acceptable limits.
- Reduce material waste.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment; experience with chemicals, foam, or similar preferred.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving skills; ability to diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions with minimal supervision.
- Basic math skills for accurate measurement, weighing, and mixing of raw materials.
- Effective verbal and written communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Production and manufacturing environment with exposure to chemicals, heat, noise, and physically demanding tasks.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, or crawl.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs regularly; occasionally lift over 50lbs with assistance.
- Work may include uneven surfaces, ramps, and stairs.
- Exposure to outdoor conditions in various weather.
- Must be available for overtime, weekends, or varied shifts as required by production needs.
