About This Position
Real Estate Equities is a leader in affordable multi-family housing market. We have communities across the Twin Cities, Rochester and also in Arizona!The Payroll and Benefits Administrator is responsible for processing accurate and timely payroll, updating ADP HRIS system, and administering employee benefits programs. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations; maintains payroll and benefits records; resolves employee questions; and partners with HR, Finance, Operations and external vendors to support a positive employee experience.Key ResponsibilitiesPayroll AdministrationProcess biweekly payroll and monthly commissions for all employees, ensuring accuracy of hours, earnings, deductions, taxes, and garnishments.Maintain employee HRIS and payroll records, including pay changes, job changes, tax withholdings, and direct deposit updates.Audit payroll data, resolve discrepancies, and reconcile payroll reports to the general ledger as needed.Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, including overtime calculations and timekeeping practices.Administer payroll-related filings and remittances (federal/state/local taxes), including year-end processes (W-2s and related reporting).Coordinate with payroll providers to troubleshoot issues and implement system updates or process improvements.Enter and update employee data into ADPBenefits AdministrationAdminister employee benefit programs, such as medical, dental, vision, life, disability, 401(k), FSA/HSA.Manage benefit enrollments, life event changes, eligibility tracking, and terminations in HRIS/benefits platforms.Coordinate annual open enrollment, including employee communications, system configuration, and vendor coordination.Reconcile benefits invoices, resolve billing discrepancies, and ensure timely payments.Support leave of absence administration as assigned (e.g., FMLA, state leave programs, STD/LTD coordination) in partnership with HR manager.Compliance, Reporting, and SupportMaintain confidentiality of payroll and benefits data and ensure secure handling of sensitive information.Prepare standard and ad hoc reports (headcount, payroll registers, benefits eligibility, retirement contributions, etc.).Assist with internal/external audits and support documentation requests.Maintain process documentation and recommend improvements for efficiency, accuracy, and employee service.Stay current on payroll/benefits regulations and industry best practices.Required QualificationsAssociate’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).4+ years of experience in payroll administration and employee benefits administration.Working knowledge of payroll principles, taxes, and wage and hour compliance.Experience with ADP WFN payroll systems and benefits enrollment platforms.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong attention to detail.Preferred QualificationsBachelor’s degree in a related field.Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) and/or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC).Experience with multi-state payroll and benefits.Familiarity with retirement plan administration and vendor coordination.Experience supporting leave administration (FMLA/ADA coordination).Skills and CompetenciesHigh accuracy and strong analytical/problem-solving skillsStrong customer service orientation and ability to explain complex topics clearlyExcellent organization and time management; able to meet strict deadlinesAbility to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalismEffective communication and collaboration across departmentsProcess improvement mindset; comfort working with systems and dataWork Environment / Physical RequirementsPrimarily office-based hybrid role, 3 days/week in the officeRequires extended periods of computer use.May require occasional overtime during payroll processing and open enrollment periods.Career Path for youThis role can work into other HR duties like managing state unemployment processes, workers compensation, leave management administration.Career development is important at REE and we want to help you move your career in a positive direction!
