Are you looking for an exciting summer opportunity to gain valuable skills and make a meaningful impact across Washington state's communities? Support Washington Dental Service as a Legal Intern and gain hands-on experience in legal research, contract law, and compliance work that enables the organization to scale and operate effectively. You will build a strong foundation in in-house counsel operations while developing key professional skills in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
Skills you will gain during the internship:
- Practical experience in delivering legal services to support our dental benefits business, our technology services business, and other critical operations of Washington Dental Service and its affiliates.
- Legal research and analysis focused on enterprise-wide initiatives, contract law, AI and data privacy trends, and other in-house legal topics.

This non-exempt internship pays an hourly rate of $28.00 and is full-time (40 hours per week). Interns are expected to work during our standard business hours, which are from 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday. Interns are typically required to work onsite at our Seattle office every Tuesday, with the option for remote work on other days based on departmental needs.

- Partner with Senior Counsel to conduct legal research projects on relevant topics, such as data governance, AI trends, document management, and other current topics.
- Review various types of agreements for Washington Dental Service, identify required updates, and create updated templates as needed.
- Work with internal stakeholders to draft policies and procedures related to legal support systems and documentation.
- Assist with special projects by conducting legal research and preparing draft documents and memoranda as assigned.
The experience, skills, and education needed to succeed in the position are outlined below. These requirements are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the essential functions of the role.
- Currently enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school with a strong foundation in legal research and legal writing.
- Completed coursework in Contract Law or demonstrated experience applying contract law principles.
- Experience with Westlaw, LexisNexis, Bloomberg Law, or similar legal research platforms preferred.
- Displays a high level of accountability by effectively managing tasks independently, meeting goals, and delivering high-quality work while staying dedicated to team objectives.
