About This Position
PURPOSE OF JOB: Functions as a staff physician of the 16 bed general medical hospital which provides medical service to the Bristol Bay residents.
QUALIFICATIONS:- Graduation with a degree of Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine from a U.S. medical school, or an Osteopathic Medical School listed as approved by the American Council on Graduate Medication/Education and hospitals, American Medical Association in the list published for the year of graduation, and completion of an approved internship/residency in Family Practice. Foreign medical school graduates may be considered if they have passed the FLEX Exam or equivalent and completed an approved U.S. internship or residency program.
- Permanent and full or unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Alaska.
- This individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span (e.g., pediatric/adult/geriatric) and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the assigned unit's policies and procedures.
- Must successfully pass the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention (ICPA) background check.
- Routinely examines medical, obstetric and pediatric patients and outlines a plan for necessary care including, as appropriate, laboratory tests, x-rays, etc. Examines all available records, detern1ines preliminary diagnoses and institutes treatment. Keeps detailed clinical records.
- Performs procedures and treats a variety of diseases, injuries, and medical problems as defined by his/her medical privileges.
- Consults with the Clinical Director or appropriate specialist at ANMC on difficult cases. Recommends and arranges transfer of patients to the Alaska Native Medical Center or other tertiary center as appropriate.
- Makes daily rounds, visits patients, observing their condition and response to treatment, and discusses pertinent results and observations with fellow staff members. Instructs or arranges for instruction of patients and related matters.
- Takes call with other medical practitioners on the staff as assigned. Performs village clinic visits throughout the region as assigned.

- : Interacts with Kanakanak hospital staff, medical colleagues in Alaska Native Medical Center, and the private sector. Maintains liaison with other health care professionals.

Must display personal professional integrity, and the ability to obtain patient's confidence and maintain emotional stability in handling difficult situations. Must be able to work under stressful conditions both in hospital and in accomplishing field assignments.
POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Provides supervision to clinical persom1el. This may include medical students, residents, midlevel providers, and community health aides.
SUPERVISED BY: Functions with minimal direction under the clinical supervision of the Clinical Director. Has considerable freedom to exercise professional/independent judgment. Work is viewed in te1ms of quality of care provided through periodic performance improvement chart reviews.
