SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Security Coordinator, the Security Transport Officer is responsible for ensuring the safe transport of committed/behavioral health patients. Assumes responsibility for ensuring patients do not escape, are not injured or injure others.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Positively identify each patient prior to transport.
• Coordinate with clinical staff to determine appropriate restraints.
• Verify commitment papers and medical records are with the transport.
• Take possession of any/all patient’s personal property.
• Search all patients and personal properties for weapons and contraband prior to placing patient in vehicle.
• Ensure proper restraints for safe transport (leg irons/handcuffs/waist belts, etc.)
• Ensure entire transport is documented with the in-car camera system.
• Maintain safe driving practices between locations.
• Maintain full control of patients from ED to vehicle.
• Maintain full control of patients from vehicle to Behavioral Health Unit at North Campus.
• Keep the Security Leadership informed of security related activities and unusual or significant events during transport.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be high school graduate or the equivalent.
- Must have successfully completed the minimum standard training for Security Officers as required by the State of South Carolina and be commissioned as a Security Officer.
- Must complete Defensive Driving Course (DDC).
- Must be able to communicate effectively and clearly in both oral and written form and edit the written communications of subordinates.
- Must be familiar with the proper use of two-way radio and codes.
- Ability to physically defend self, subdue attackers and properly use handcuffs and Tasers.
- Ability to maintain composure, use good judgment and make sound decisions in emergency and stressful situations.
