Custodian at YMCA of Greater Flint – Flint, Michigan

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensure The Y is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule while also maintaining all equipment used or assigned to your area.
• Clean and sanitize sinks, toilets, showers, restrooms, and other assigned areas of the building.
• Clean and maintain floors, walls, windows, and other surfaces.
• Keep clean and sanitize all exercise machines, large and small pieces of fitness equipment, and all areas around machines and equipment.
• Perform sidewalk/exterior clean up, such as upkeep of the parking lot.
• Substitute for other custodial and maintenance staff when available.
• Perform cleaning and maintenance of whirlpools and pools as required.
• Complete special event and meeting setup as described in the event schedule plan.
• Report incidents and hazardous conditions to the Supervisor and Site Lead.
• Follow Emergency Response Plan procedure.
• Follow all OSHA rules and regulations.
• Use chemicals safely and appropriately and ensure proper chemical bottles are labeled accurately.
• Use ladders to reach areas that need to be serviced.
• Attend monthly staff meetings.
• Fill out daily logs including all supply order requests.
• All other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Risk Management Duties

• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with children.
• Attend required abuse risk management training.
• Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
• Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
• Adhere to job-specific abuse risk management responsibilities.

• Must have the ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
• Basic knowledge of cleaning and cleaning supplies is required.
• Needs to be a self-starter, team player, reliable, and have an eye for detail. \Speak and See Clearly
• Speak, Read and Write fluent English
• Bend/stoop/twist/push/pull
• Climb/balance on ladders
• Use cleaning chemicals and pool chemicals
• Lift over 50lbs
• Work in air-conditioned area
• Work in non-air-conditioned area
• Work outdoors with pollens
• Work in sunlight and high humidity
• Work in areas with noise level over 50 decibels
