Job Description
The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.
The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Community Nurse position within our Health & Wellness Department located at 150 Henry Ave in Winnipeg, MB. The Community Nurse will provide care that is consistent with the MMF’s health approach that is rooted in an understanding of the broad determinants of health and the principles of primary health care, community development specific to Red River Métis Citizens.
Job Duties/Competencies:
- Apply appropriate strategies to prevent injuries, chronic and communicable diseases, and other Clinical services as they are developed;
- Address environmental issues and promote health and wellness to Red River Métis Citizens and their families;
- Strive to improve the health of all people and reduce inequities among populations by addressing determinants of health and promote equitable health outcomes;
- Provide services in communities, across communities and across the region;
- Respectfully work in and with diversity including sexual and gender minorities, and all cultural, spiritual, political, age, ability, family, and economic circumstances;
- Support self-determination, encourage self and family participation in health.
- Travel through out Manitoba with the Clinical Services to implement developed projects and ongoing strategies.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Baccalaureate Nursing Degree is required. Additionally, at least one of the following is preferred: successful completion of a Public Health Agency of Canada’s Skills Enhancement for Public Health Program content module certificate, a Canadian Community Health Nurses certification, and successful completion of a related course at a master level;
- CPR certification and College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba registration required;
- Minimum 1 year of recent, relevant experience and demonstrated competency in public health, primary care / primary health care, population-level health promotion or community development is required;
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills;
- Experience working with an Indigenous community in a clinical setting is an asset;
- Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
- Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle is required.
