About the Township Exeter Township is a vibrant community located in southeastern Berks County, Pennsylvania, approximately 6 miles east of Reading. With a population of around 25,500, it is the third-most populous municipality in the county. Covering roughly 24 square miles, the Township offers a mix of suburban neighborhoods, historical landmarks, and scenic natural areas.
Position Overview Exeter Township is seeking an experienced detailed-oriented Police Secretary to support daily operations of the Police Department. This position serves as a front-line contact for the public and provides administrative, records, and clerical support in a fast-paced law enforcement environment.
General Duties: Answer police department phone lines and assist walk-in residents at the front window. Support police radio communications and coordinate information flow as needed. Prepare and manage correspondence with citizens, agencies, and Township personnel. Process and fulfill citizen requests for incident reports and documentation. Enter, maintain, and retrieve data within the department's records management system, including court dispositions. Perform records checks and maintain required logs. Maintain CLEAN/NCIC entries and deletion logs, including CHRIA dissemination logs. Assist with system administration and general office operations. Maintain departmental files, including training records. Perform additional administrative duties as assigned by the Police Department Administrative Lieutenant. Working Conditions: Operates in a public-facing law enforcement office setting. Monday – Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm
Compensation & Benefits: Compensation in accordance with applicable collective bargaining agreement. Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, pension, and paid leave (as applicable).
Minimum Requirements: High School Diploma or G.E.D., relevant administrative experience preferred. Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills. Proficient in computer use and data entry; ability to learn police records systems. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information. Ability to complete required training and meet job-related testing as determined by the Department.
