About This Position

Patient Financial Services Supervisor & Analyst

Who We Are

Speare Memorial Hospital is Plymouth's community hospital — a place where neighbors care for neighbors, and where every staff member plays a vital role in our patients' health journeys. We're a tight-knit, mission-driven team that takes immense pride in delivering big-hospital quality with small-town heart.

We're looking for a sharp, motivated Patient Financial Services Supervisor & Analyst who's ready to lead with confidence, dig into the data, and make a meaningful difference — both for our patients and our organization.

The Opportunity

This is not your average billing role. As our Patient Financial Services Supervisor & Analyst, you'll sit at the intersection of leadership, analytics, and patient advocacy. You'll oversee daily operations of the patient financial services team, keep our revenue cycle humming, and use data to drive real improvements — all while ensuring patients understand and can navigate their financial responsibilities with dignity.

What You'll Do

Lead & Inspire

  • Supervise, mentor, and motivate the patient financial services team — setting the tone for a high-performance, compassionate culture
  • Conduct regular team meetings, performance reviews, and one-on-ones that actually move the needle
  • Identify training needs and champion professional growth across your team
  • Serve as the go-to escalation point for complex billing issues and patient concerns

Analyze & Optimize

  • Dig deep into billing data, AR aging, denial trends, and collection rates — and turn those insights into action
  • Build and present reports that help leadership make informed strategic decisions
  • Track key performance indicators and proactively identify opportunities to improve revenue cycle efficiency
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure accuracy, compliance, and quality across all accounts

Advocate for Patients

  • Ensure patients receive clear, empathetic communication about their bills, payment options, and financial assistance programs
  • Oversee charity care and financial counseling processes with sensitivity and thoroughness
  • Resolve escalated patient billing concerns with professionalism and a genuine commitment to fairness
  • Champion a department culture where every patient interaction reflects Speare's values

Drive Revenue Cycle Success

  • Oversee billing and coding processes, ensuring timely and accurate claim submission across all payers
  • Manage denial management workflows — working denials aggressively and systematically to maximize reimbursement
  • Partner with clinical, coding, and registration teams to close the loop on front-end revenue cycle issues
  • Stay current on payer policy changes, regulatory requirements, and billing best practices

What You Bring

Required

  • 3+ years of experience in healthcare revenue cycle, medical billing, or patient financial services
  • 1+ years in a supervisory or lead role — you know how to bring out the best in a team
  • Solid working knowledge of medical billing, coding fundamentals, and payer contract basics
  • Experience with healthcare billing software and the Microsoft Office suite
  • Strong analytical mindset — you love a good spreadsheet and know how to tell a story with data
  • Excellent communication skills; you can explain an EOB to a patient and a dashboard to an executive
  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Preferred

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Finance, or related field
  • Certified Patient Account Representative (CPAR) or similar billing certification
  • Experience with Epic or comparable EHR/billing platform
  • Familiarity with Critical Access Hospital (CAH) billing requirements
  • Background in a rural or community hospital setting

Why Speare?

Because here, you're not just a number — and neither are your patients. At Speare Memorial Hospital, you'll have real ownership of your work, a direct line to leadership, and the satisfaction of knowing the work you do keeps healthcare accessible for your community.

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Generous PTO and paid holidays
  • Retirement savings plan with employer contribution
  • Tuition assistance and continuing education support
  • A supportive, collaborative team culture where your voice is heard and your growth is encouraged
  • The satisfaction of working for a mission-driven community hospital that truly makes a difference
