About This Position

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The position is responsible for ensuring sound fiscal accounting practices and financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Manage Staff Accountants to ensure duties are completed and day-to-day financial requirements including budgeting, analysis, general ledger and maximizing revenue/collections.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES & TASKS:

Under the general supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, has primary responsibility of maintaining the financial records, daily accounting activities and supervising the staff accountant.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Financial Statements & General Ledger

  • Oversee all Journal Entries and ensure necessary approvals are documented
  • Balance A/R to General Ledger on a monthly basis
  • Maintenance and reconciliation of all general ledger accounts
  • Fixed Asset Inventory tracking and reconciliation
  • Produce monthly financial statements to include P&L’s, balance sheet and a cashflow statement.
  • Coordinates a timely month end close process in conjunction with IT and AR
  • Reviews, analyzes and interprets financials on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis to ensure accurate and proper recording
  • Monitor/Revise/Design Business Office methods and policies in order to properly control financial functions, including an efficient filing system in order to retrieve necessary documentation

2. Contract invoicing & Grants

  • Oversee fiscal requirements of grants
  • Work with Maintenance/Facilities Manager and related departments on grant spending
  • Reviews non fee for services invoices as outlined in LRMHC contracts.
  • Prepare and submit periodic financial statements required by external funding sources by deadlines mandated

3. Banking

  • Monthly reconciliation of all bank accounts.
  • Monitor internal controls pertaining to cash handling

4. Annual Audit

  • Maintain auditable financials and schedules
  • Work effectively with independent auditors and provide requested information in a timely fashion so as to receive final “clean” audit in required timeframe.

5. Annual Budget

  • Work with Program Directors, Coordinators, CFO and other Executive Team members to create the annual budget.
  • Throughout the year monitor the actual budget performance with the CFO.

6. Supervision

  • Recommend for hire, train, supervise, evaluate, discipline and if/when necessary recommend termination of the Staff Accountants in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Attendance is an essential function of this position.

AS NEEDED:

  • Assistance with accounts receivable
  • Produce ad hoc analysis and reporting
  • Attendance at LRMHC or outside committees and meetings
  • Serve as backup to Staff Accountant & Chief Financial Officer
  • Performs other relevant duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Individual must possess knowledge, skill and ability or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the primary functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities and possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the primary functions of the job.

  • The ability to receive detailed information through oral communication (e.g. in normal office setting).
  • Individual must possess the ability to perform work that requires the preparation and analysis of accounting data through the use of a computer terminal.
  • The ability to make substantial movements (motions) of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Individual must be physically and mentally capable of performing multiple tasks under stressful situations and be instantly motivated in a crisis situation.
  • The ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body is necessary.
  • Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Business

Experience:

  1. Strong knowledge and competence in general accepted accounting principles and in supervisory skills required.
  2. Computer proficiency in spreadsheet applications and word processing with experience in major accounting packages required.
  3. Superior organizational, administrative and customer service skills required.
  4. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, with an emphasis on confidentiality, manage and be flexible with multiple priorities which may change.
  5. Ability and desire to take on new challenges
  6. Excellent written and oral communication skills
  7. Must successfully exercise independent analytical judgement, work independently and be able to devise, modify or adapt standard procedures to meet conditions as they arise.
  8. A minimum of three years in accounting supervisory position required, preferably in a healthcare setting.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Monday through Friday with rare weekend work as needed.

SALARY:

This is a full time exempt position with annual compensation per Lakes Region Mental Health Center’s compensation policies.

Physical Requirements:

  • Is able to sustain light physical effort such as frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, or reaching and/or occasional lifting of items 20 lbs. or more.
  • Is able to tolerate periods of heavy workload or excessive stress.
