About This Position
Telemetry Technician
Working under the supervision of the charge nurse on duty, while continuously monitoring the cardiac function of patients on telemetry, providing an accurate interpretation of the rhythm and promptly notifying the nursing staff of any significant findings or changes. Perform clerical and reception duties as needed.
- Admit and discharge patient from central monitoring.
- Adjust alarms with RN direction and validation only.
- Verifies alarm settings every shift.
- Print, interpret, and mount strips, give to RN every shift for PCU level patients for nurse to interpret and chart.
- Alert nursing personnel of rhythm changes or new occurrences and obtain a graphic tracing for each.
- Troubleshoot any telemetry problems as needed.
- Compile new and current charts; enter patient information on chart, scan information into patient chart.
- Perform clerical duties related to admission and discharge of patients.
- Answer telephone, take messages and communicate information to appropriate person; call and follow-up with consultants.
- Assist visitors on the nursing units.
- Monitors no more than 40 patients on telemetry at a time.
- Able to answer and transfer phone calls when Unit secretary.
- Able to effectively scan and file patient information appropriately.
- Skilled on computer and updating status board and discharge information as patient changes occur.
- Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
- Keep accurate inventory of Telemetry boxes and their location
- Communicates in a clear and concise manner to RNs and medical staff.
- Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.
- Documentation meets current standards and policies.
- Attends in-service education programs, as assigned, to learn new treatments, procedures, developmental skills etc.
- Treat patient and families with respect and dignity.
- Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
- Ensure effective communication at shift change.
- Print patient stickers.
Regulatory Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in High School or High School Graduate/GED
- Successful completion of telemetry class and exam within 3 weeks of hire.
