About This Position
Summary:
Bicycle Shop staff are responsible for renting out, cleaning and fixing a fleet of full suspension cross-country, downhill and e-mountain bikes at Moonlight Basin. Along with cleaning, organizing, record keeping and helping the lead mechanic maintain the bikes, the shop staff will be responsible for checking in members and guests, obtaining waivers, sizing guests for proper bike fit, and explaining the trail map and local trail options.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Bicycle Repair and Shop maintenance
- With the assistance of the lead mechanic, tune, maintain, diagnose, and repair a fleet of full suspension rental mountain bikes and e-bikes.
- Assist lead mechanic to build new arrival bikes out of the box
- Identify parts that may need replacement.
- Keep tools and shop clean, functional, and organized including part inventory, sweeping, mopping, trash and recycling.
Customer Service
- Greet members and guests, assist with member check-in and equipment use.
- Obtain waivers by using appropriate online systems/ software.
- Assess member/guest ability, fit them with the appropriate size and style of mountain bike and direct to appropriate trail choice.
- Use basic terms to describe to guests how to properly use each bike prior to sending them off on the equipment.
- Explain pricing and return policy prior to renting.
- Confirm member credentials to ensure correct billing ability to member accounts.
Biking Knowledge
- Intermediate mountain biking skills are required in order to learn the local trail system.
- Capability to do basic bike repairs and research diagnostics for E bike repairs.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the English language.
- Excellent record keeping and organizational skills to maintain all equipment and documentation.

- Ability to initiate work activities, seek responsibility and make daily efforts to improve knowledge and skills.
Qualifications:
- Previous work experience or equivalent personal experience of basic bike tuning, typical part replacement, inspection and documentation.
- Intermediate mountain biking proficiency.
- Previous experience in guest service with an emphasis on outdoor recreation.
Working Conditions:
- This position will be spent in an open garage bay shop environment with exposure to the outdoor temperatures and fresh air. Bikes are received outside of the shop where a hose and water washing system is located. Garage doors may be closed when temperatures fall below a comfortable degree. Work hours will typically be 8:00am-6:00pm 4 days per week. Temperatures are consistent with those found in southwest Montana June through October. Exposure to working with garden hoses, fresh water, soap and bicycle repair and cleaning materials daily is to be expected.
Physical Requirements:
- Intermediate biking ability.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk for up to ten hours a day as required.
- Ability to use various tools and equipment as required.
- Work inside and outside, eight to ten hours a day as required.
- Bend at the waist, twist upper body, kneel, crawl, climb, reach above shoulders, flex and extend ankle, knee, and hip joints.
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs., push and pull 10-20 lbs.
