Role:
The Production Supervisor Afternoon Shift is responsible for the day-to-day planning, coordination, and execution of production activities across Tray Pack, IQF, Fresh Pack and upstream production operations throughout the plant, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations.This role provides on-shift leadership during evening operations and is accountable for achieving production targets, yields, quality standards, labour efficiency, and food safety requirements within a unionized manufacturing environment. The position works closely with the Afternoon Shift Production Manager and Shipping Supervisor and acts as a primary decision-maker during the evening shift, ensuring continuity between production, sanitation, inventory, and shipping readiness.

Role:

- Oversee evening operations across Tray Pack, IQF, and downstream production activities.
- Plan, direct, and monitor daily production activities to meet volume, yield, labour, and customer service targets.
- Anticipate, troubleshoot, and resolve production, staffing, quality, or equipment issues during the shift.
- Ensure proper product allocation, drop points, and line balancing to optimize throughput and minimize waste.
- Coordinate equipment start-ups, changeovers, and shutdowns as required.
- Lead, train, coach, and motivate hourly employees and lead hands to drive accountability, engagement, and performance.
- Ensure employees are trained on new equipment, cut-up lines, and updated work procedures.
- Administer attendance programs, approve timecards, manage vacation schedules, and conduct department meetings.
- Enforce company policies, collective agreement provisions, and progressive discipline in partnership with Human Resources.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and safety-focused work environment.
- Maintain compliance with GMPs, HACCP, SOPs, CFIA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Ensure accurate, complete, and timely documentation related to food safety, quality, and production records.
- Support internal and external audits and implement corrective actions as required.
- Monitor sanitation standards and communicate issues to sanitation and maintenance teams.
- Measure and analyze production KPIs, including yields, labour efficiency, downtime, waste, and rework.
- Review daily material costing and WIP reports; make necessary adjustments in collaboration with Finance and Operations.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to reduce costs while maintaining quality.
- Participate in and support plant-wide continuous improvement projects and business objectives.
- Organize and participate in weekly, period-end, and year-end inventory counts.
- Ensure accurate product tracking, inventory movement, and system transactions.
- Assist in the preparation and execution of business plans, forecasts, and annual budgets.
- Post-secondary diploma and/or degree in Manufacturing, Business, Management, or a related field.
- Minimum three (3) years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of GMPs, HACCP, food safety programs, SPC, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience leading teams in a unionized environment.
- Demonstrated computer and office experience, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; experience with production or ERP systems is an asset.
- Strong communication, leadership, conflict resolution, coaching, and mentoring skills.
- Proven organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Self-starter with the ability to make sound decisions independently during off-shift hours.
- Flexibility to work evenings and adapt to changing operational needs.
- Experience in poultry, meat, or protein processing.
- Exposure to IQF operations, tray pack lines, or high-speed food packaging.
- Experience overseeing downstream production, cold storage, or shipping readiness.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement methodologies.
- Fast-paced, temperature-controlled food manufacturing environment.
- Requires extended periods on the production floor.
- Ability to respond to operational issues during evening hours.
- Occasional weekend or holiday coverage as required.
