About the Role:
The Access Control Installation & Service Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the security and safety of various facilities by installing, maintaining, and repairing access control systems. This position requires a thorough understanding of electronic security hardware, software integration, and network connectivity to deliver reliable and efficient access solutions. The technician will work closely with clients to assess their security needs, provide expert recommendations, and implement customized access control systems. Additionally, the role involves troubleshooting and resolving technical issues promptly to minimize downtime and maintain system integrity. Ultimately, the technician contributes to creating secure environments by ensuring that access control systems operate flawlessly and meet all regulatory and client standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience in installing and servicing electronic access control systems or related security technology.
- Basic understanding of electrical wiring, circuitry, and network protocols.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel to client sites.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical certification in electronic security systems, such as NICET or equivalent.
- Experience with IP-based access control systems and integration with video surveillance.
- Familiarity with common access control software platforms and database management.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles related to physical security systems.
- Previous experience working in a customer-facing technical support role.
Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and test access control hardware and software components including card readers, biometric scanners, and control panels.
- Perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs on existing access control systems to ensure optimal functionality.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot system malfunctions, network connectivity issues, and hardware failures.
- Collaborate with clients to understand their security requirements and provide tailored solutions and technical support.
- Document all installation and service activities accurately, including system configurations, maintenance logs, and service reports.
- Stay updated on the latest access control technologies, industry standards, and best practices to recommend system upgrades.
- Coordinate with other security and IT professionals to integrate access control systems with broader security infrastructure.
Skills:
The technician uses their technical skills daily to install and configure complex access control systems, ensuring all components communicate effectively over networks. Troubleshooting skills are essential for diagnosing hardware and software issues quickly to minimize client disruption. Strong communication skills enable the technician to explain technical information clearly to clients and collaborate with team members. Attention to detail is critical when reading wiring diagrams and documenting system configurations to maintain accuracy and compliance. Additionally, staying current with emerging technologies allows the technician to recommend and implement innovative security solutions that enhance system performance and client satisfaction.
Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday with occasional weekends. Afterhours on call rotation and emergency dispatch needs. Hours vary based on client/company needs but generally have an 8AM start time to 5-6PM stopping time.
Travel Requirements:
Weekly travel throughout FL, GA or SC is common. All drive/travel time is performed in company issued vehicles, compensated at full pay rate, covered with company expense accounts and per diem issued.
Other Requirements:
The individual will be required to furnish their own hand tools, such as, but not limited to, screw drivers, scissors, wrenches, wire strippers/cutters, crimpers, sockets/ratchets, all formed of pliers/cutters, voltage meter, and any other hand tool needed to accomplish an install or service call. The individual must have no felony or criminal record, pass drug screening and have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Compensation:
The role has a window or compensation that will range based on experience. skill set and certifications held. Rates are negotiable and based on those stated factors but generally range from $22.00/hr - $42.00/hr. These rates do not include per diem while traveling, commissions, etc. Rates/Offers will be discussed and agreed to at time of hire.
