Overview

This role will support the FirstHealth Specialty Pharmacy team. We are seeking a highly motivated, energetic, and dynamic pharmacist to support our system's specialty pharmacy and its patients. This role will support our operations of the specialty pharmacy (filling, patient education, etc) for our ID and Oncology patients as well as participate as back up roles within our heart failure clinic. The pharmacist will have great communication, organization, and team-building skills with a thorough understanding of standard specialty duties and clinical skills.



Responsibilities

  1. Receives and interprets prescriptions while reviewing the patient's medication profile/history. Clarifies incomplete, inaccurate, or contraindicated prescriptions with the prescriber, nurse, or other health professional, as appropriate. Identifies and intervenes on problems related to the medication needs of the patient.
  2. Prepares and dispenses all drugs, including refills, for patient use as ordered and as appropriate. Assesses drug therapy for appropriateness prior to medications being dispensed.
  3. Utilizes and analyzes patient data to provide optimal drug therapy recommendations. Assesses the patient's medication therapy regimen and makes appropriate clinical interventions with the provider.
  4. Direct workflow, supervise pharmacy personnel and ensure completion of all necessary tasks for optimal functioning of the pharmacy.
  5. Counsels patients and appropriate family members regarding pharmaceutical care issues as required - either in person or via telephone.
  6. Performs order verification for oral oncologic medications to ensure appropriateness and appropriate end pharmacy for patient needs and insurance requirements.
  7. Complete assigned administrative tasks and projects in a timely manner.
  8. Adheres to federal, state, local, and institutional policies, procedures, standards, and regulations.
  9. Identifies and participates in process improvement opportunities.
  10. Precepts students, residents and participates in training new pharmacy staff as required.


Qualifications

Required

  • Active pharmacist licensure with the NC Board of Pharmacy or obtainable before initiation of employment.

Preferred

  • Previous retail pharmacy experience
  • Previous specialty pharmacy experience
  • Successfully completed PGY-1 residency
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical record, Asembia specialty platform, and Rx30 pharmacy system
