About This Position
Position Summary
Reporting to the AVP of Finance, the Senior Analyst – Finance & Decision Support prepares and analyzes financial reports to support management decision-making. The role provides analytical support for budgeting, long-range planning, business plan development (including pro formas and retrospective analyses), service line reporting, revenue and reimbursement analysis, and ad hoc reporting. It requires extensive data mining and the extraction of financial and clinical information from various sources to produce analysis that supports organizational decision-making and strategic planning.
The Senior Analyst acts as a liaison among Finance, Administration, and Operations and serves as a subject matter expert in decision support and cost accounting, understanding the flow of data from financial systems and patient encounter records and the interrelationship of data from these different systems
The ideal candidate demonstrates refined analytical skills and is comfortable manipulating and summarizing large, complex data sets. This individual is highly organized, possesses excellent time management skills, and can work independently on complex projects while managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Include the Following:
- Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
- Develop expertise in various reporting systems and play a key role in the implementation and maintenance of Syntellis and Strata financial decision support, cost accounting, and benchmarking applications.
- Prepare analyses to support budgeting, long-range planning, business plan development (pro forma, retrospective analyses), service line reporting, cost and revenue analyses, and ad hoc reporting. This includes assessment of volume, reimbursement, payor mix, and operating costs.
- Summarize and present results in a clear, actionable manner, leveraging visualization platforms to assist in decision-making.
- Responsible for analysis and reporting of assigned service lines relating to the monthly financial close process, annual operating budget and financial projection.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual operating budget and maintain the appropriate supporting documentation.
- Develop routine reports and dashboards to monitor institutional performance against financial and operational indicators, providing administration with information for critical business decisions.
- Act as a liaison among the finance department, administration, physician practices, and other hospital departments.
- Suggest improvements to optimize and increase efficiency in data preparation, including methods to reduce or avoid duplication of effort among stakeholders (e.g., finance teams, administration, operations, IT, etc.).
- Cross-train to perform in other areas of the Finance Department as needed.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or Hospital Administration required; Master’s degree preferred
- 3-5 years of experience in a Healthcare Analyst or Decision Support Analyst role
- Experience with Power BI (Business Intelligence) or similar data visualization tools
- Advanced knowledge of reporting systems (e.g., Syntellis/Axiom), cost accounting applications (e.g., Strata), and financial systems (e.g., Infor, Workday), and medical record systems (e.g., EPIC)
- Advanced Excel skills required
- Experience with cost accounting required
- Knowledge of healthcare systems and business practices
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with members of the leadership team
- Advanced skills in reading, analyzing, and interpreting hospital volume and financial data
- Highly organized with excellent time management skills and the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously under tight deadlines

Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment
- May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
