Longwood Gardens seeking a seasonal Facilities Assistant to support our Mechanical Division for a hands-on summer experience focused on maintaining and upgrading heating (boilers) and mechanical (plumbing) systems throughout our conservatories and buildings. Responsibilities include:
- Assisting with daily maintenance and upgrades of plumbing and heating systems
- Supporting the repair and installation of piping and steam control systems
- Operating tools, such as pipe threaders, pro-press tools, piping and electrical tools, basic mechanical tools
- Repairing leaks
- Maintaining boilers and heating units
- Conducting water chemistry tests
- Performing emissions inspections
The schedule for this position will be Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
The ideal candidate will possess:
- An interest in mechanical systems, plumbing or related fields
- A willingness to perform hands-on work and learn new skills
- The ability to safely use mechanical and piping tools (training provided)
- Valid driver’s license required
