About This Position
About the Role:
Summer at Lakeside is currently recruiting for a Competition Math teacher to teach in our Summer School program. In this week-long course, students will explore the strategies and problem-solving techniques that will prepare them for the AMC 10 and AMC 12 math competitions. Every day will focus on a different topic such as number theory, geometry, probability, and combinatorics. Through collaborative problem-solving, targeted practice sets, and live walkthroughs of competition problems, students will build confidence and mathematical agility. Summer School courses are designed for motivated students who want to explore a subject in greater depth in an academically engaging environment.
The class runs July 6 - July 10, Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., with a 30 minute lunch break. There will be a mandatory orientation meeting on Thursday, June 18. Visit our Summer School webpage to read more about this program, including descriptions of the courses offered for summer 2026.
Specific Responsibilities:
Create an inclusive and culturally responsive curriculum
Create organized and engaging lesson plans
Supervise and instruct a diverse group of students that have different educational backgrounds and experiences
Provide individual support and adapt different teaching strategies for students needing additional instruction
Requirements and Qualifications:
Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions. The candidate will understand different perspectives; interact respectfully with cultures other than their own; and cultivate meaningful relationships with people that have different cultural frameworks.
Prior experience teaching middle-school or high-school age students; demonstrated equity and inclusion mindset
Candidates should be aware of their own identity and biases; candidate actively works to create an inclusive classroom environment
A bachelor’s degree; master’s degree in a relevant subject area preferred
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Positive and collaborative attitude
Candidates must satisfactorily complete two criminal background checks.
Valid CPR & First Aid certification by the start of class.
Compensation and Benefits:
The stipend for this position is $1,400. Lunch is included. The course may only run if enough students register. Enrollment will remain open until June 1. If the number of students enrolled is too small to run by June 1, or if the course is canceled for any reason, the stipend will not be paid. Summer at Lakeside also offers free camp for children (grades 3–8) of all summer employees for the weeks when they are working for the summer program. Employees must register their children via the Summer at Lakeside webpage.
