About This Position
The Account Manager – Specialty Polymers is responsible for managing and growing customer accounts within the specialty polymers segment, including custom processing and specialty waxes. This role serves as the primary point of contact for assigned customers, ensuring exceptional service, managing project timelines, driving profitable growth and identifying new business opportunities. This role will collaborate closely with various teams to align customer needs with the company’s capabilities and long-term business objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Account Management & Performance
· Manage and grow assigned accounts within the Specialty Polymers portfolio.
· Forecast and monitor account performance, including volume, margin, and customer demand trends.
· Prepare and deliver periodic account reports for internal leadership and customers.
· Maintain and manage account-specific pro-forma P&L metrics to monitor profitability.
· Ensure on-time delivery and service excellence to meet customer expectations.
Sales Strategy & Market Development
· Conduct market research to identify emerging opportunities, customer needs, and new applications for specialty chemical products.
· Develop and execute account-specific and product-specific sales strategies to drive growth.
· Build strong technical and commercial knowledge of company product lines and customer applications.
· Develop pricing strategies that align with financial targets and objectives.
· Support the introduction and launch of new products into the market.
Client Relations, Negotiations & Collaboration
· Serve as the primary liaison for customer inquiries, issues, new projects and strategic discussions.
· Negotiate commercial terms and contracts in alignment with company objectives and customer needs.
· Strengthen customer relationships through consistent communication, responsiveness, and value-added support.
· Partner with internal teams, including Operations, R&D, Engineering, Customer Service, and Supply Chain, to ensure alignment and optimization.
Communication, Reporting & Cross-Functional Support
· Communicate progress on sales initiatives, account developments, risks and opportunities to leadership and relevant stakeholders.
· Provide customer insights and feedback to internal teams to support process improvements and product innovation.
· Participate in internal meetings, customer visits, trade shows, and industry events as needed.
· Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements:Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Business, or a related field from a four-year college or university, required.
- Minimum of 3 years of account management, technical sales, or commercial experience within specialty polymers, petrochemicals, lubricants or related industrial markets preferred.
- Experience managing customer accounts with complex technical products and long sales cycles strongly preferred.
- Prior experience with pricing models, margin analysis, or P&L management is a plus.
- Strong relationship-building and customer service skills.
- Excellent negotiation and communication abilities.
- Effective project management capabilities.
