About This Position

Are you the kind of person who finds satisfaction in doing things precisely - measuring carefully, documenting clearly, and catching small details others might miss? Do you enjoy a mix of hands-on lab work and focused computer-based tracking, and feel motivated by the idea that your accuracy directly affects product quality? If you’re naturally curious, quality-minded, and thrive in a role where every day can look a little different, this could be a great fit.

The Synergy Company is seeking an R&D Assistant to support our product development team. You’ll help move new formulations from concept to reality by supporting benchtop trials, preparing and tracking samples, maintaining a clean and organized lab environment, and ensuring the documentation behind our work is thorough, clear, and reliable.

Discover the Difference We Make

At Synergy, we create award-winning organic supplements with uncompromising quality and a deep commitment to people, planet, and long-term wellness. As a Certified B Corporation, we put purpose on par with profits and hold ourselves to high standards in how we source, manufacture, and show up as a team.

Based in the stunning red rock landscape of Moab, Utah, we’re a mission-driven group of people who value curiosity, integrity, craftsmanship, and care - for our customers, our environment, and one another.

Why This Role Matters

R&D is where ideas become products - but quality is built in the details. This role is critical because it strengthens the foundation of our development work: accurate sample prep, consistent documentation, reliable tracking, and disciplined execution. Some days are fast-paced and shifting; other days are more repetitive and focused. In both, your work ensures we don’t compromise on quality.

Think of this role as a blend of:

  • Lab support + documentation excellence
  • Hands-on execution + systems/organization
  • Independent focus + cross-functional teamwork

What You’ll Do

R&D Lab Support & Benchtop Trials

  • Assist with formulation support and benchtop trials (powders, capsules, tablets, etc.) under the guidance of the R&D Manager
  • Prepare prototypes and maintain accurate sample inventory and tracking
  • Support stability/compatibility checks and basic evaluations of raw materials and prototypes

Sample Preparation, Tracking & Documentation

  • Prepare, label, log, and route samples for internal testing and evaluation
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation that support traceability and decision-making
  • Collect and manage product/ingredient documentation (specs, COAs, supplier documents, etc.)
  • Help ensure development work is recorded clearly and consistently so it’s usable across teams (Quality, Regulatory, Production)

Lab Organization & Process Discipline

  • Keep the lab, sample library, and workspaces clean, organized, and [KS1] ready for exploration
  • Follow SOPs and safety protocols with consistency and care
  • Support process improvements that make lab workflows more reliable and repeatable

Cross-Functional Support (Production + Quality/Regulatory)

  • Collaborate with Quality, Regulatory, and Production as needed to support pilot runs, troubleshooting, and documentation readiness
  • Step into production-adjacent work when necessary to support scale-up and execution

Sensory Evaluation

  • Participate in sensory evaluation (taste/smell/visual) when needed, including following protocols that may require ingesting products

What You Bring

Required

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel (tracking, documentation, accuracy-focused work)
  • A high standard for detail, accuracy, and organization - you double-check because you care
  • Ability to work independently for stretches of time while staying aligned with team priorities
  • Comfort shifting between task types (computer-heavy days, lab-heavy days, and occasional production support)
  • Willingness to follow SOPs, maintain cleanliness standards, and use PPE as needed
  • Ability to lift up to ~50 lbs and perform physical tasks typical of lab and production-adjacent work

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Experience in a lab environment, product development, food/supplements manufacturing, or quality documentation
  • Familiarity with cGMP/regulated environments (or strong comfort working under strict procedures)
  • Coursework or degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Biology, Chemistry, or related field
  • Experience with tracking systems or databases (FileMaker, LIMS, ERP, SharePoint lists, etc.)

The Traits That Succeed Here

  • Curiosity + craftsmanship: you care about getting it right and understanding the “why”
  • Focus under repetition: you can maintain accuracy during tedious work
  • Adaptability: you don’t get rattled when priorities shift
  • Humility and coachability: you take feedback well and improve systems over time

Compensation & Benefits

We offer a competitive hourly wage (based on experience) and a comprehensive benefits package, which may include:

  • Employer-paid medical and dental insurance (plus optional vision and supplemental coverages)
  • HSA/FSA options
  • PTO + Wellness and Volunteer Time Off (WTO & VTO)
  • Paid holidays
  • Subsidized on-site childcare (subject to availability)
  • 401(k) plan with employer match
  • Monthly product stipend to experience our supplements

Ready to Make an Impact?

To apply, submit your resume and a short note (or cover letter) answering two quick questions:

  1. What interests you about supporting product development in supplements/nutrition?
  2. Share an example of a detail-heavy task you owned - what system or methods did you use to prevent mistakes?

Join The Synergy Company and help ensure our products are built with the precision, integrity, and care our customers trust.
