Position Summary
The Nurse Practitioner serves as a specialist in the field of general psychiatry and provides psychiatric services for a number of clinical service programs under the supervision of the Chief Clinical Officer (CCO). The Nurse Practitioner may provide services to adult and youth/adolescent programs as defined.
Responsibilities
  • Provides general inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care services to patients at various programs in the organization as determined by the CCO.
  • Meets with patients to prescribe medications for patients currently stable on their medications or cases deemed “uncomplicated” by a physician.
  • Meets and adheres to requirements of the medical staff by-laws, state and federal rules and regulations, and MHS policies and procedures.
  • May serve on various committees from time to time on an ad hoc basis as required by the CCO.
  • Assists in informing, educating, and promoting the philosophy, goals, and objectives of MHS and receives and acts upon feedback from the community to ensure effective interfacing between the community and MHS.
  • Advises, teaches, and participates in educational programs.
  • Conducts therapy sessions as appropriate.
  • Prepares and writes progress notes, medical reports, case reviews and other necessary reports on assigned patients as required by The Joint Commission, OMHAS, and Mental Health Services.
  • Collaborates actively with patient’s therapists, CPST workers or other providers to ensure best care and common treatment goals. Collaborates as necessary with community physicians.
  • Meets regularly with supervising psychiatrist to effectively communicate about open cases.
  • Follows all universal precautions for safety, infection control and follows all state, federal and joint commission health and safety standards.
  • Treats patients and family with dignity and respect at all times, and holds all patient information in the strictest confidence.
  • Adhere to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state and local requirements and Joint Commission standards, including National Patient Safety Goals. Presents a positive image of MHSCC to other community agencies, caregivers and citizens
  • Completes all MHS required education and training, including initial agency orientation, mandatory trainings and educations, and up keep of all required certifications and licensure as required by state, federal and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrates organizational stewardship and exemplifies the mission, vision and values of MHS.
  • Performs other job-related tasks as assigned
Education/Experience
  • Master's degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
  • 1-3 years experience in family practice or with mental/behavioral health clients
  • Experience with patient-centered, trauma-informed care.
Licensure/Certifications
  • License to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Ohio
  • Valid license to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio
  • National Certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner (FNP certification)
  • Certification in CPR/BLS.
  • Current DEA registration
  • Reliable transportation, driver’s license and proof of auto insurance may be required.
  • De-Escalation training and education
MHS provides CPR (BLS)/First Aid and NVCI (CPI Blue Card) for all new staff, along with on-going education and on-the-job training opportunities.

All MHS candidates are required to have an Ohio BCI check (FBI check required if you have lived in Ohio for less than 5 years, or for working with children), 5-panel drug screen and Residential candidates must have a 2-step TB (or proof of prior TB) upon conditional offer of employment.
