About This Position
Summary:
Reporting to the General Counsel, the Associate General Counsel will work closely on all day-to-day legal activities arising in the course of the operations of the MCCA. The Associate General Counsel will provide legal assistance in all areas throughout the MCCA, as well as in required judicial and administrative proceedings.

- Drafts and reviews legal documents and contracts including Requests for Proposals and Requests for Qualifications, procurement materials, sales contracts and booking documents as well as other legal documents.
- Provides legal advice to MCCA staff on issues relating to the day-to-day operation of the MCCA.
- Leads efforts with outside counsel in the defense of the MCCA against suits or claims in judicial and administrative proceedings.
- As directed by the General Counsel, participates in the defense of various legal claims or coordinates with outside counsel in preparing the prosecution of the MCCA’s claims.
- Reviews, analyzes, and provides advice in response to correspondence, notices, claims or submissions regarding legal issues relating to the Authority's operations and functions.
- Provides legal representation in union negotiations and labor relations issues with respect to the MCCA various bargaining units.
- Works closely with state and city officials on legal matters to represent the MCCA.
- Draft and/or reviews internal procedures, forms and other documentation relating to the legal obligations of the MCCA.
- Assists in the preparation of the Board minutes, including preparation of board votes and various board subcommittee minutes and the MCCA’s Designer Selection Panel.
- Assist sales staff and leads MCCA client contract negotiations.
- Manage duties and responsibilities of outside counsel as directed.
- Legal lead on construction related issues, including public construction bids relating to all MCCA facilities.
- Represents the MCCA in all legal aspects of procurement, including but not limited to: contract, negotiations, bid protest, claims, dispute resolution, audits and investigations.
- Oversee as directed the purchasing department regarding procurement of goods and services for the MCCA’s review.
- Manages the purchasing department to include oversight of enforced asset and warehouse controls.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Supervision as required is provided by General Counsel.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: In the absence of the General Counsel this job may include supervision of employees within the Legal Department, to include coaching, counseling and inspection of work performed.
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE: Law degree plus Massachusetts Bar Admission with a minimum of 7 years related legal experience and/or training to include a thorough understanding of Public Procurement, Labor and Employment, Discrimination laws, and c.286A is preferred.
Preference will be given to well-organized, proven leaders with strong organizational skills, analytical thinking abilities, and proven management abilities. Candidates must be flexible, team players, with strong oral and written communication skills and committed to the MCCA’s Mission.

WORK SCHEDULE: The work schedule for this position is typically Monday through Friday, occasionally beginning before 8 am and ending after 6 pm, however the hours and days may fluctuate based upon the needs of a particular event or project, which would require the ability to work a flexible schedule including late nights, early mornings, long days, weekends and holidays. Occasional travel to various MCCA facilities may be required.
