Columbus School for Girls (CSG), an independent day school founded in 1898 in Columbus, Ohio, serves diverse students in grades pre-k through grade 12. Columbus School for Girls will be hiring a temporary, full-time long term substitute teacher for English in the Upper School.
Major Functions and Responsibilities:
- Teach five English classes, including American Literature, AP Language and Composition, and British Literature.
- Assist with an advisory group of 8-10 students
- Collaborate with the English department to ensure a cohesive, rich, and diverse English curriculum
- Provide timely and proactive communication with students, parents, and faculty advisors about student progress.
- Participate actively in the life of the school, including leading clubs and/or activities, supervising study halls, and possibly coaching.
- Active participation in all faculty and staff meetings.
Experience, Characteristics, and Qualities:
- A bachelor’s degree in English, English education or similar. An advanced degree in either English or English education is preferred.
- Strong candidates will possess English classroom experience, familiarity with AP English Language and Composition curriculum, and knowledge of writing pedagogy.
- Strong classroom management skills, proficiency with classroom technology, and the demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction are key components of the position.
- We seek an energetic teacher who is eager to enhance a dynamic and evolving program by integrating 21st-century skills.
- The successful candidate must be collaborative and a good communicator who values working outside of the classroom with elementary students.
- Strong candidates will have an understanding of the value of an all-girls education and the eagerness to learn about the best ways to help young women of promise to reach their full potential as learners and leaders.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand and move about the classroom for extended periods of time throughout the instructional day.
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, stoop, kneel, and crouch as needed to support student learning and classroom activities.
- Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull instructional materials, classroom supplies, and equipment up to 30 pounds.
