About This Position
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Staff Software Engineer, Video Streaming in United States.
This role sits at the intersection of large-scale distributed systems and real-time video technology, powering low-latency streaming capabilities used to enhance safety and situational awareness across communities. You will help build and evolve cloud-based video pipelines that ingest, process, encode, and deliver live and recorded video at scale. The work is highly technical and mission-driven, requiring deep engineering expertise and a strong bias toward action in complex, high-impact environments. You will collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to design resilient systems that support rapid growth in connected video devices. This is a hands-on role where your contributions directly influence system performance, reliability, and user experience. It’s ideal for engineers who thrive on solving challenging infrastructure problems while delivering meaningful real-world impact.
- Design, build, and optimize scalable video streaming systems supporting live and recorded video ingestion, encoding, packaging, and delivery.
- Develop and enhance low-latency video pipelines using modern streaming technologies and cloud infrastructure.
- Build and maintain backend services in Go and TypeScript (Node), ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Integrate and extend video processing libraries such as FFmpeg (libav) and related streaming frameworks.
- Collaborate on API design and implementation to support internal and external video consumption use cases.
- Work with AWS and cloud-native tooling (Kubernetes/EKS, Docker, observability tools like Prometheus and Grafana).
- Contribute to system architecture decisions and improve orchestration, scalability, and resource efficiency.
- Partner cross-functionally with product and engineering teams to deliver high-impact video capabilities.
- Extensive experience with video and streaming technologies such as WebRTC, HLS, RTSP, and FFmpeg.
- Strong background in building systems for video ingestion, encoding, processing, and delivery.
- Hands-on experience with FFmpeg libraries (e.g., libav) and media pipeline engineering.
- Proficiency in Go and TypeScript (Node.js) for backend service development.
- Experience working with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, and containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes/EKS).
- Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.
- Proven ability to design scalable APIs and distributed systems.
- Strong problem-solving mindset with the ability to tackle ambiguous, complex engineering challenges.
- Collaborative approach with experience working across engineering and product teams.
- Bonus: experience with LiveKit, AWS IVS, or similar streaming orchestration tools.
- Competitive salary range of $200,000 – $225,000 plus equity options
- Fully covered medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Health Savings Account (HSA) contributions
- Flexible PTO plus 11 company holidays
- 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave, with additional recovery time for birthing parents
- Fertility, adoption, and family-building support up to $50,000 lifetime benefit
- Mental health support through therapy, coaching, and wellness tools
- Caregiver support services
- Monthly WFH stipend and home office setup allowance
- Learning, productivity, and wellness stipends
- Comprehensive equity and tax advisory support
