About This Position
Position Title: Occupational Health Specialist
Location: Davenport, IA, United States
Description:
The Occupational Health Specialist performs both occupational health and personal health consultation for MidAmerican Energy Company employees and participates in medical surveillance programs while developing pro-active programs to take a preventative approach to employee health.
Responsibilities:
Performs both occupational health and personal health consultation for MidAmerican Energy Company employees while maintaining sensitive and confidential information regarding company information, including employee medical history and records by ensuring that no breach of HIPPA occurs . (25%)
Reviews medical documents pertinent to medical surveillance programs including respiratory medical clearance, hearing conservation, ergonomic evaluations, first aid materials, periodic functional physical assessment and hazard communications. (20%)
Develop proactive programs to take a preventative approach. (10%)
Attends and participates in approximately 50% of local safety meetings. (5%)
Documents timely and supports the medical recordkeeping systems. (15%)
Schedules and teaches CPR training to employees and coordinate with operations to ensure compliance in region. Coordinates health and wellness promotion while referring to emergency intervention when needed (5%)
Reviews incidents requiring non-emergency medical treatment with Program Manager, Occupational Health and employee in advance of referral to a medical provider. (15%)
Functions as primary healthcare professional for all MidAmerican Energy employees when coverage is needed, this may include nights and weekends. (5%)
Performs additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Qualifications:
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse or equivalent work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess an RN license).
Two years working as an occupational licensed healthcare professional preferred.
Perform responsibilities as directed within determined time frames and with a high degree of accuracy.
Establish and maintain effective work relationships within the department and the company. Maintain the professional certification, competence, knowledge and skills necessary for the satisfactory completion of responsibilities.
Attend work on a regular basis and support the company's employee policies and procedures, including workplace safety rules.
Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.
A thorough understanding of governmental compliance requirements along with the ability to train and educate all levels of management on occupational health issues is required.
Expected to cross-train to gain proficiency in industrial hygiene and general safety, to become familiar with OSHA regulations, and become knowledgeable in company safety rules and requirements.
Ability to travel 20-25% of time.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities.
Leadership skills to provide instruction, orientation, guidance and direction.
Communication skills to transmit information accurately and understandably in written and verbal format and communicate effectively in group settings.
Short-term project management planning skills to plan workflow, coordinate projects and resolve conflicting demands.
Administrative skills to follow company standards and policies.
Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
