This role serves as a strategic and trusted advisor in the realm of employee relations, focusing on high-risk cases and complex organizational matters. You will provide guidance and legal risk assessment to HR teams and business leaders while ensuring compliance with employment laws across North America and globally. The position involves conducting sensitive investigations, offering consultative support on performance and organizational changes, and analyzing trends to recommend proactive risk mitigation strategies. You will work independently and collaboratively, influencing stakeholders at all levels and helping to shape a culture of fair, consistent, and legally compliant employee practices. The role requires discretion, critical thinking, and the ability to navigate complex situations with professionalism. Remote work is supported, with occasional travel for strategic meetings or projects.
Accountabilities:- Manage complex or escalated employee relations cases, including sensitive investigations, with full autonomy and discretion.
- Serve as the primary point of legal triage for HR Business Partners and leadership, evaluating employment law inquiries and determining appropriate escalation.
- Conduct risk assessments for organizational restructures, business transformations, and performance issues, providing actionable guidance to leadership.
- Lead data analysis to identify trends, root causes, and long-term strategies for reducing employee relations risks.
- Prepare high-quality documentation, including investigation reports, executive summaries, recommendations, and communication talking points.
- Partner with Legal, Compliance, Security, and other stakeholders to resolve high-risk employee matters.
- Coach, mentor, and educate HR teams and leaders on policies, employment law, and best practices in employee relations.
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Employee or Industrial Relations, Business, Legal Studies, or related fields.
- 58 years of employee relations experience, with a strong focus on high-risk cases and organizational consultation.
- Deep knowledge of United States and Canadian employment laws, with ability to interpret complex regulations for business stakeholders.
- Proven experience in legal triage, risk assessment, and serving as a liaison between HR and legal counsel.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with a focus on root cause analysis and proactive problem solving.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and influencing skills; able to advise senior leadership credibly and strategically.
- Ability to work independently on sensitive matters across multiple geographies while maintaining discretion and professionalism.
- Experience with HR systems (Workday preferred) and case management platforms (ServiceNow, Navex, or similar) is a plus.
- Advanced skills in policy development, project management, and employee relations analytics are highly desirable.
- Juris Doctor (JD) or advanced degree in employment law is a plus but not required.
