The Communications Manager will be responsible for managing internal and external communications for a variety of audiences. This includes communications to residents, staff, landlords, vendors, community partners, and the public. They will implement the RHA Communications Plan to help create and maintain connections between RHA, applicants, residents, and landlords as well as establish company culture through internal communications. The Communications Manager will help grow RHA’s reputation in the Triangle region by establishing media relationships and producing public-facing collateral. This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

  • Lead the planning and coordination of communication activities and include staff, stakeholders, and partners as necessary to engage the intended audience most effectively.
  • Develop a press strategy that builds and supports the mission of RHA. Cultivate relationships with organizations and individuals working in mass media and serve as the media contact for the organization. Provide media talking points and assistance to RHA leadership as needed.
  • Research, write, edit, design, and produce a variety of materials and publications including reports, presentations, external documents, official letters, videos, brochures, flyers, email newsletters, and other collateral, maintaining brand standards for all communications.
  • Manage, write and edit content for RHA’s website. Work with RHA’s IT Department to implement updates to the RHA website.
  • Develop a social media strategy, including posting content frequently and monitoring a variety of social media platforms for misinformation and generating rapid responses.
  • In collaboration with leadership, direct strategic engagement processes to facilitate opportunities for dialog with the public, RHA residents, and other stakeholder groups.
  • Take photos and develop and maintain an RHA photo library for use in communication and marketing efforts. Take videos and edit content for social media and internal distribution.
  • Design graphics to aid in effective communication, including graphics for social media, the website, resident announcements, flyers, emails, and more.
  • Analyze campaigns and communications efforts to make data‐informed decisions concerning effectiveness and areas for improvement. Compile analytics to track campaign performance.
  • Manage external contractors on communications and marketing projects.
  • Play a lead role in changes in branding and ensuring compliance with RHA branding guidelines, including templates, specialty items and branded apparel.
  • Assist in creating and delivering in-person and online education messages for RHA participants and landlords, including video content.
  • Manage RHA’s community relations activities with a focus on creating and maintaining strong partnerships. Attend and support community events, resident meetings, and related activities.
  • Be available on short notice to engage in and assist with communications in crisis situations.
  • Arrange translation of text into languages other than English as needed.

Desirable Education & Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in the Liberal Arts, English, Journalism, Communications, marketing or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • At least five years of relevant media and communications expertise.
  • Strong commitment to economic, social, and racial justice.
  • Three or more years’ experience with social media platforms.
  • Special Requirements

    • Must possess and maintain a valid NC driver’s license.
    • Drug testing, criminal background check and DMV check required.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graphic design, infographics, photography and videography experience.
  • Experience with various communication tools, including: Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Canva, Mailchimp, WordPress, and Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere and Acrobat.
  • Must have the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong commitment to economic, social, and racial justice.
  • Professional working proficiency in Spanish or another language.
