Job Summary:
The Dock Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing inbound and outbound dock activities to ensure the safe, efficient, and accurate movement of materials through the facility. This role manages dock scheduling, trailer loading and unloading, and coordination with warehouse, production, and transportation teams to support uninterrupted material flow.
The supervisor ensures dock operations are executed in alignment with production requirements, inventory control processes, and safety standards while maintaining efficient use of dock space, equipment, and labor.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
The Dock Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing inbound and outbound dock activities to ensure the safe, efficient, and accurate movement of materials through the facility. This role manages dock scheduling, trailer loading and unloading, and coordination with warehouse, production, and transportation teams to support uninterrupted material flow.
The supervisor ensures dock operations are executed in alignment with production requirements, inventory control processes, and safety standards while maintaining efficient use of dock space, equipment, and labor.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Supervise daily dock operations including inbound receiving, outbound shipping, loading, and unloading activities
- Coordinate dock schedules and trailer assignments to ensure efficient flow of inbound and outbound shipments
- Ensure materials are received, unloaded, verified, and staged accurately and in a timely manner
- Oversee outbound loading activities to ensure accuracy, proper sequencing, and on-time shipment readiness
- Coordinate with warehouse, logistics, and production teams to align dock activities with material demand and production schedules
- Communicate with carriers and transportation providers regarding scheduling, delays, and dock availability
- Monitor dock congestion, trailer dwell time, and loading/unloading efficiency and take action to resolve bottlenecks
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures, PPE requirements, and proper use of material handling equipment
- Enforce 5S standards and maintain organization of dock areas, staging zones, and trailer lanes
- Support inventory accuracy by ensuring proper documentation, scanning, and material verification processes
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce loading/unloading errors
- Monitor team performance and provide coaching, training, and performance feedback
- Assist with staffing, task assignment, and workload balancing to meet operational needs
- Maintain accurate records of shipments, dock activity, and performance metrics using SAP/WMS systems
- Support and maintain 5S standards within office, dock, and warehouse areas, ensuring organization, cleanliness, and adherence to standard work practices
- Follow and support all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and standard work practices while performing daily logistics and administrative activities
- Perform other duties as assigned to support company and department goals
Required Education, Training, & Experience:
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in warehouse, dock operations, logistics, or manufacturing environment
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory or team leadership experience
- Experience with shipping, receiving, and dock scheduling operations
- Experience with WMS systems (SAP preferred)
- Familiarity with material handling equipment and dock operations
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of dock operations, shipping/receiving processes, and material flow
- Ability to coordinate multiple inbound and outbound shipments in a fast-paced environment
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to read schedules, shipment plans, and material documentation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and warehouse/logistics systems
- Knowledge of 5S, standard work, and lean material flow practices
- Ability to identify bottlenecks and drive process improvements
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
