Job Summary:
The University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual to join our dynamic team as an Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. This position also carries the responsibility of serving as the Biopsy Service Lab Director. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in educating predoctoral and postdoctoral students while contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field of oral and maxillofacial pathology.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Teaching:
  • Deliver high-quality didactic and clinical instruction to predoctoral dental students, postdoctoral residents, and other learners in the field of oral and maxillofacial pathology.
  • Develop and implement innovative teaching methods to enhance the learning experience of students.
  • Mentor and advise students on research projects, clinical case presentations, and academic pursuits.
2. Biopsy Service Lab Director:
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Biopsy Service Lab, ensuring the efficient and accurate processing of biopsy specimens.
  • Collaborate with laboratory staff to maintain the highest standards of quality control and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Continuously improve laboratory protocols and procedures to enhance diagnostic accuracy.
3. Research:
  • Engage in scholarly activities, including original research, publications, and presentations at national and international conferences.
  • Pursue external research funding opportunities to support research initiatives in the department.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and students on research projects related to oral and maxillofacial pathology.
4. Service:
  • Participate in departmental and university committees and provide leadership within the field of oral and maxillofacial pathology.
  • Serve as a resource for clinicians and colleagues in the interpretation of biopsy results and the diagnosis of oral diseases.
  • Contribute to community outreach and engagement efforts related to oral health education and prevention.
5. Professional Development:
  • Stay current with developments in the field of oral and maxillofacial pathology through continued education and participation in professional organizations.
  • Foster a culture of academic and clinical excellence within the department.
Required Qualifications:
  • D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of an accredited Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology residency program.
  • Board certification or eligibility for certification by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology.
  • Eligibility for a dental license in the state of Pennsylvania.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience and a commitment to education.
  • Strong diagnostic skills and clinical expertise in oral and maxillofacial pathology.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and diverse academic environment.
  • Evidence of scholarly activity, including research publications and presentations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in an academic setting, including teaching and mentoring students.
  • Research expertise and a track record of securing research grants.
  • Familiarity with modern laboratory techniques and technology in the field of oral pathology.
