Position Overview: Grades 7–12 Chemistry Teacher

Full-Time | Malden, MA

The Chemistry Teacher is responsible for delivering Mystic Valley Regional Charter School’s Chemistry program in Grades 7–12. Instruction is aligned with the Core Knowledge curriculum and methodology.

MVRCS’s high school program also includes the rigorous and internationally recognized International Baccalaureate (IB) program, and teaching assignments may include IB Chemistry coursework.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement the Chemistry curriculum in Grades 7–12, including Core Knowledge and, where applicable, IB coursework

  • Teach up to five classes daily, each aligned with established curriculum and instructional expectations

  • Deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons with clear and measurable learning objectives

  • Incorporate laboratory experiments and hands-on activities to reinforce key chemistry concepts

  • Assess student progress regularly and provide timely feedback through progress reports and report cards

  • Administer standardized assessments as directed by the Science Department Chair and Leadership Team

  • Collaborate weekly with colleagues in the Science Department to align curriculum, analyze data, and refine instructional practices

  • Maintain a structured classroom and laboratory environment using the school’s discipline model

  • Ensure the safe and appropriate use of laboratory equipment and materials

  • Participate in staff meetings and ongoing professional development

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Science Department Chair and/or Assistant Director

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related field required

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to analyze data, assess student performance, and adjust instruction accordingly

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively within a team environment

  • Deep content knowledge in chemistry

  • Experience designing and implementing lab-based instruction preferred

  • Ability to create lessons aligned with school and curricular goals

  • Successful completion of applicable MTEL exams within one year of employment

Additional Information
  • This position reports to the Science Department Chair

  • Annual appointment with yearly performance evaluation
