This role is a strategic leadership position responsible for building and managing transformative relationships with institutional funders to advance educational initiatives nationwide. The Director of Institutional Giving will craft compelling, place-based philanthropic strategies and narratives that highlight the impact of programs in diverse communities. This position combines relationship management, grant writing, and strategic planning to secure funding that drives systemic change. You will engage directly with funders, collaborate with internal teams, and ensure philanthropic resources are aligned with organizational goals. The role offers a dynamic environment with moderate national travel, remote work flexibility, and the opportunity to influence education outcomes across multiple regions. It requires creativity, strategic thinking, and the ability to translate complex programs into compelling funding proposals.

Accountabilities:
  • Develop and implement regional and national institutional giving strategies that align with organizational priorities.
  • Build, nurture, and maintain relationships with institutional funders through in-person and virtual engagement.
  • Lead the creation of persuasive, localized grant proposals that clearly communicate program impact and community relevance.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to translate complex programmatic work into fundable initiatives.
  • Monitor and manage multi-funder projects, ensuring successful execution and reporting.
  • Continuously assess funding landscapes to identify opportunities for strategic partnerships and new philanthropic approaches.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in institutional fundraising or development for mission-driven organizations.
  • Proven success in cultivating and managing relationships with institutional funders through strategic engagement.
  • Exceptional grant writing skills with experience producing compelling, locally-informed proposals.
  • Deep understanding of place-based philanthropy and regional educational strategies.
  • Strong project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfort with moderate national travel to engage funders and participate in organizational events.
  • Passion for connecting philanthropic resources to meaningful educational outcomes.
