Starting pay rate: $59,000 - $70,000 annually

Benefits start 1st of the month following 30 days of employment

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

The Senior Accountant oversees core financial functions for a nonprofit organization, ensuring compliance with GAAP; grant and fund restrictions; state and federal regulations; and internal controls. This role is responsible for higher-level financial reporting, audit coordination, grant tracking, and supporting strategic financial planning. It serves as a key partner to leadership by delivering accurate, timely, and transparent financial information.

  1. Financial Reporting & General Ledger Oversight:
    • Assist the Controller in the preparation of all financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
    • Ensure the timely preparation of the monthly property financial package from the property management company.
    • Maintain and review NHS/NHDS general ledger accounts.
    • Analyze financial data and present timely, accurate reporting to leadership.
  2. Grant, Fund, and Donation Accounting:

    • Track grants, restricted funds, donor contributions, and program allocations.
    • Prepare grant expenditure reports, monitor fund balances, and ensure compliance with all funding requirements.
    • Assist program managers in understanding grant budgets.
  3. Budgeting & Forecasting:

    • Prepare schedules, analyze trends, and assist with department budget planning.
    • Review completed budgets by the property management company. Perform variance and flux analysis to prior year actuals, and align recommendations with property strategy.
    • Conduct variance analysis, forecast revenue and expenses, and make strategic recommendations.
  4. Audit, Compliance & Internal Controls:

    • Coordinate NHS/NHDS annual external audits.
    • Serve as a liaison with the property management team to ensure timely compliance with audit and reporting requirements.
    • Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit reporting standards, state and federal laws, and organizational policies.
    • Help maintain and strengthen internal control systems, including approval workflows, segregation of duties, and reconciliation practices.
  5. Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, & Reconciliations:

    • Assist, as directed by the Controller, with oversight of AP/AR processes.
    • Perform or review bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations; resolve discrepancies promptly.

EDUCATION/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  2. 2–4+ years of accounting experience, preferably with nonprofit or fund accounting exposure (grant tracking, restricted funds, donations).
  3. Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit regulatory requirements.
  4. Experience preparing financial statements, performing reconciliations, and managing general ledger accounts.
  5. Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, MIP, Blackbaud, Business Central, Dynamics) and advanced Excel skills.
