About This Position
The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.
The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Communications Specialist position within our Languages Department located at 200 Main Street in Winnipeg, MB. The Communications Specialist supports the development and design of language resources and coordinates the communication and promotional content within the department to increase the visibility of programming and events to ensure goals and objectives are accomplished in accordance with prescribed priorities, Department standards, branding, budgetary guidelines, and work plan activities.
Job Duties/Competencies:
- Plan, produce, design, and publish digital and multimedia content (video, audio, photography, written materials, cultural resources, promotional materials, brochures, and social media graphics) that supports Michif language revitalization and learning;
- Record, edit, and archive Michif language materials, oral histories, and Elders’, knowledge keepers stories in accordance with Métis cultural protocols, permissions, and data stewardship practices;
- Manage and update digital platforms including website, social media channels and internal archives in alignment with MMF communication standards;
- Represent, participate and assist in all Languages Department programs, meetings, functions and events as required;
- Prepare reports, memorandums, briefings, speaking points and letters;
- Assist in tracking monthly and annual department activities and results;
- Travel with department team across the homeland and beyond borders.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Diploma or certificate in creative communications, graphic design, media production or relevant field; equivalent experience and training may be considered;
- Experience with Graphic Design and photography;
- Proficiency in video and audio recording, editing and post-production tools as well as equipment for same;
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Audition;
- Proficiency in MS Office; Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills;
- Clear Adult Abuse Registry Check, and Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search is required;
- Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
- Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, and MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
- Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle is an asset.
